About this deal

seen in the author’s other work. Overall, I think the uproar in favor of this work as one that is a “great step forward” for LGBT+ manga is misguided; from my perspective, it’s just more of the same old stuff I hate and would like for authors to move on from. Richardson, Trevor (14 August 2018). "The Queering of an Octopus: Cephalopod Symbolism in Go For It, Nakamura!". Adventures in Poor Taste . Retrieved 6 October 2019.

As for my problems with this manga outside of that: I found Nakamura kind of annoying and just downright weird. I’m not really rooting for him, though the author most certainly wants me to. The humor was the wrong kind of ridiculous for me, and that’s coming from someone who has a flair for the bombastic. Like, it wasn’t believable, which is fine, but it wasn’t even interesting. I couldn’t take any part of the story seriously because of it, but the more serious parts are not all that riveting or groundbreaking to begin with. For some, the themes might be a breath of fresh air, but I’ve read so many works with LGBT+ themes that this one felt dated and stale.

Go For It Again, Nakamura! takes place after the conclusion of Go For It, Nakamura! where the two boys, Nakamura and Hirose, became friends. Nakamura continues to seek his goal of becoming closer with Hirose and sees becoming friends with him as a big motivator. Nakamura admires Kawamura's drawing skills the moment he saw her drawing of Hirose, claiming himself to be a fan. When Nakamura saw her drawings of gay boys, Nakamura asks her to draw him and Hirose hanging out together, being very grateful for her service. Nakamura was also willing to help her being a replacement for the role Kawamura was supposed to play in "The Night of Falling Stars."

Nakamura also seems more comfortable talking to Kawamura than any other characters, baring a rarely seen content expression when interacting with her. They however, do not interact with each other on a daily basis, only doing so when Nakamura asks her for drawing requests or bumping into each other during class. This isn't one of those gay mangas where one man is super effeminate and submissive whilst the other one is dominating and rapey either. Know why? Because (spoiler alert), actual romantic relationships don't work like that. Nope, instead the power-dynamics aren't really skewed in anyone favor and the relationship actually develops slowly over time. Characters from Go For It, Nakamura! were included in a pop-up cafe run by Opera in Harajuku, Tokyo from March 16 to April 8, 2018. The cafe featured original merchandise and menu items inspired by the series. [12] Reception [ edit ]

After the end of the manga, the eleven chapters were collected into a bound volume by Akane Shinsha and published in May 27, 2017. On September 15, 2017, Seven Seas Entertainment announced that it would release an English translation of the series. The single-volume manga was published on July 3, 2018, making Go For It, Nakamura! the first boys' love manga series to be published by Seven Seas. Seven Seas Licenses Go For It, Nakamura! Manga". Anime News Network. 20 September 2017 . Retrieved 6 October 2019. E a arte? Ela é, sem dúvidas, perfeita. O traço me agradou muito, todos os quadrinhos bem limpos visualmente e agradáveis, sem contar nos detalhes, achei tudo muito fofo! Me remeteu muito a quadrinhos antigos. E outra: COMO TODOS OS PERSONAGENS PODEM SER TAO BONITOS? TL;DR: What with the push among some for BL manga to be “wholesome” and “relatable”, I think it’s hilarious that Ganbare Nakamura-kun is one of the poster children. This manga could be considered insidious—it masquerades as a cute, silly story about a guy who loves his classmate, but if you squint, you can easily reveal the author’s fetishes. If you’re uncomfortable with some of the less savory BL tropes, be wary of the sequel. This is relatively tame; the sequel is worse. I doubt that the events of that story are a misunderstanding or a setup for criticism of that trope because of what I’veGo For It Again, Nakamura! was serialized in the boys' love manga magazine Opera from 2017 to 2021, and was eventually turned into a bound volume by Akane Shinsha on the same year. It was also licensed for an English Release by Seven Seas Entertainment during 2022. a b c Ressler, Karen (15 September 2017). "Seven Seas Licenses Go For It, Nakamura! Boys-Love Manga". Nakamura is also shown very emotionally sensitive, such as shedding a tear when Kawamura gives him the manga he requested, getting excited when spots his beloved octopus in the Yokohama aquarium, or being unable to calm himself down when flustered. Additionally, Nakamura can act without thinking when in his emotional state, such as when he fell down a large construction hole in front of him in an attempt to save Hirose, or when he vandalizes on a wall out of despair despite a sign stating "Do not graffiti." hanging on top of him. Nakamura bears a one-sided crush on Hirose and is always achieving to get closer to him. During the beginning of the story, Nakamura is very self-conscious around Hirose, fearing that Hirose will avoid him if he makes some sort of mistake. Due to this, he hides a lot about himself such as how he loves octopus and how he likes reading BL books. Nonetheless, he cares a lot about Hirose, worrying when he had a stomach and risking his life to protect Hirose from the delinquents. OPERA's pop-up cafe features Nakamura wearing a chef uniform holding a tong with a common red octopus hugging his head. Ganbare! Nakamura-kun!! is a very funny slice of life manga centred on an awkward gay high school boy and his crush. Unlike most of the shounen ai and yaoi genres, this manga is completely drama free so far; which is a welcome thing- the same stories can be told in the same way only so many times. And it's so well written, i managed to get thru a manga of a genre i have near to zero interest in without ever being bored a secondA sequel series, Go For It Again, Nakamura! ( もっとガンバレ!中村くん!!, Motto Ganbare! Nakamura-kun!! ), began serialization in Opera in June 2017. [6] An English-language translation was published by Seven Seas Entertainment in July 2022.
