About this deal

Ein Ausschnitt aus der Rede Thomas Bernhards zur Verleihung des Bremer Literaturpreises im Jahr 1965, den er für „Frost“ erhielt, zeigt dies deutlich: I really, really liked this book. First things first. This book is not a stand-alone. There’s no way to be content with the ending without continuing the story. Since I enjoyed the book, I do intend to read the second book. This book to me was like some crazy mix up of The Village (M. Knight Shyamalan) and The Forest of Hands and Teeth (Carrie Ryan) all jumbled together...in a very good way. I was creeped out through a majority of it wondering what the Watchers really were. I only know of a handful of books that have brought on such intense feelings of fear and this one did it. That shows the author knows what she is doing and doing it well. All in all, a delight to read and experience - yes, it's impossible not to "live" the story through Lia's eyes, the narration is just that close and personal. Now that the truth is out in the open, I can't wait to see how much more the Weavers will evolve as characters, and what other dangers their actions will bring forth as consequences!

The part that bothered me most about the book was how much the male lead, Torin, was forgiven for the parts of him Ava didn’t like because “he was hot.” Not a direct quote. Anyway, I sort of don’t get how people are given passes for looks. Not for the things he was forgiven for, at least. A hot person spills a drink on me in a bar? Forgiven because they smiled at me. It’s pretty privilege. Burning humans alive at Beltane? Yeah, I don’t think being hot is enough to move past that. Initially, I was completely sold on this book based on its description and was very excited to read it. However, the execution left me feeling somewhat underwhelmed. While I did enjoy the book, it was not something that I loved; it was more of a like, something that I could take or leave. I had read some blurbs online that made me think this would be a more spicy read, but for those who are looking for something with more heat, this book is not the right fit. The most it gets to in terms of steaminess is a fully clothed makeout session and lots of tension. The writing style is enjoyable, but it seems like it is primarily setting the stage for future books, for which there is only one sequel out right now, and not much actually happens in this one, other than the completion, and slightly getting to know the characters.A vow of CHASTITY? Who does that? [... Literally 2minutes pass] But I don't mind, I like a bit of a challenge. He's like a hot priest." cliff hanger (but not a major rage inducing one)✖ wish it was longer✖unanswered questions that I better get the answers to in the next book I had the privileged of being a part of the cover reveal from AToMR Tours for Frost. So when I knew Frost was going on tour I jumped at the chance to be on it. When I read the blurb I was excited to be introduced to a new world.Sometimes we bloggers tend to stay with the same genre but I said hey this good. I have to say I am so glad I read Frost because it left me breathless and wanting book two like yesterday! WHAT?! THAT'S IT?!?!? You can't do this to me!!!!! I demand a second book!! So many unanswered questions!!!!!!

The only thing that annoyed me was that Lia, our main character, was brave but she couldn't make her mind up! Seriously! Make your mind up, girl!! Gabe, i thought, was a interesting character but he was more of a normal guy to me. The story didn't really look into him in more detail of his feelings and i would have loved it if there was. The only things we know are little detail was his story of how he got here. Other than these things i loved every single thing about it!To make a world all nestled in the cold of ice, snow and frost and still maintain the vivid imagery to get the story flowing is extremely difficult but this author did it perfectly. I want to read the sequel and I want to read more about the complexity of a great cast of characters: Lia, Gabe, Ivy, Ann, Adam and Jonn. The Farthers were perfect villains and I loved to hate them but I would definitely like to see what their world is all about too. But in terms of having a voice, I felt that voice was better directed at things that I knew personally. And those things often happen to be addiction and alcoholism and grief and trauma. The ending was an incredible cliff hanger that had me screaming when it ended. I LOVED IT!!! I was gassed. I need so many questions answered.

The concept of war against advancing technology is one I’ve read too many times and unfortunately there wasn’t anything unique in this book that would make me recommend it as a read. The book took me a lot longer to read than I anticipated and though the ending had a few surprising twists, it wasn’t enough to make me enjoy the story overall. I was asking myself what imagination is. I’m sure imagination is an illness. An illness that you don’t catch, merely because you’ve always had it. An illness that is responsible for everything, and particularly everything ridiculous and malignant. Ava, a common fae living among humans, goes through a terrible heartache after she catches her human boyfriend cheating on her. As she goes out with a friend to forget her pain, she encounters the powerful and dangerous Seelie King of the Fae: Torin. She drunkly and publicly insults him and his entire competition to find the Seelie Queen. TOURNAMENT PLOT LINES are always entertaining and this was no exception! Although Ava did get some help from Torin throughout the tasks, I didn’t feel like it took away from her own badassery. The tournament definitely felt like high stakes and the authors didn’t shy away from making it bloody. I’m expecting to see more from Adam in the future. My opinion about him is not quite formed yet. ;)THE STORY WAS a little bit predictable but I still enjoyed it. I kind of knew where the ending was headed but the suspense and mystery was still done well and kept it entertaining. The ending was a bit of a cliffhanger so I’m very happy Book 2 is coming out soon!

The narrative pretext is represented by the assignment received by a young medical student, who is sent by his assistant Strauch, his superior, to observe the activities of the painter Strauch, the eccentric brother of his superior. The novel will consist in the dialogues of the two, and especially in the careful recording of Strauch's long monologues, in which he defines his conceptions on the tragic and the absurd, human existence and the great mysteries of life. Another question; is the painter Strauch's rant merely an autobiographical extension of Bernhard's own crippling misery? It's possible, but I think that there is a bit more to this particular novel. Frost's premise is simple enough; a medical student travels to the Austrian countryside on assignment from one of the medical assistants who works for the institute at which he is studying, to observe the habits of the medical assistant Strauch's brother, the painter Strauch. Neither his school or name is given, in a fashion that is reminiscent of the sort of Kafkaesque, intentional vagueness that Bernhard seems to be praised for. The medical student (let's call him MS in the interest of clarity) takes his assignment with casual enthusiam. Thus begins his relationship with a misanthropic painter, whose mind is deteriorating at the same rate that his body is. Aber, da ist ja noch die Frost-Analogie! Diese könnte das Buch aufwerten, wenn man den Frost mit dem Tod gleichsetzten möchte und ihn als Abtötungsprozess versteht. But I was very proud that I got to meet him. He started off like me working as a line cook – I worked in a Mexican restaurant, he was in a more high end French place – but he was a normal human who had something to say and people loved him. People loved him because he was honest and funny and spoke his truth.NF: No, on set is the place I feel the most comfortable. Every set for me is the same. All the equipment is the same, all the crew are the same. All the crew wear the same clothes as every crew in the world. I know everything they say, I know what the language means. Usually, not always, you’ve got to know your place in the food chain, but usually I’ve got a voice, I can ask questions. I just love it.
