Founded in 2015 by George Frost, the son of broadcasting legend Sir David Frost, Duppy Share will sell more than 500,000 bottles this year and claims to be the top-selling premium rum in the UK. The company plans to launch a fresh funding round next year to help it break into the US market in April. Duppy Share produces a range of premium Caribbean rums from distilleries in Jamaica and Barbados, including Aged, Spiced, White, XO and Pink Ting-A-Ling RTD cans. Duppy Share pays homage not only to the never-ending flavour potential of rum but the essence of the Caribbean. Just as Whiskey matures, a portion of it is said to evaporate to the angels – often referred to as the Angel’s Share. However, Caribbean belief states that Jamaican spirits, aka Duppies, billow between the islands’ distilleries extracting the best of the rum as it matures in oak barrels, otherwise known as a ‘Duppy Share. The rum revolution is growing strong, so we had a chat with the founder of The Duppy Share, George Frost to reflect on the growth of both the brand and the category. Alongside his business partner and former Innocent Smoothie veteran Jess, George embarked on the task of mapping out a “Duppy Taste Spider… essentially we had legs like openness, molasses, perceived alcohol, and sweetness.” To do this, they tasted and mapped about 30 different rums. “We then you know, built our own rum spider.” That last sentence isn’t one I ever saw myself typing, but makes sense right?!
