About this deal

One last comment regarding the movies; I found Morgan Freeman to be a huge disappointment as the actor chosen to portray Alex Cross. Don’t misunderstand me – I LOVE Morgan Freeman!! However, in my mind’s eye the actor most well suited for the role would have been Denzel Washington, as I felt he was closer in age to Alex Cross (whose children were young throughout the Cross series). I would have envisioned Michael Clarke Duncan (from “The Green Mile”, and now deceased) – as his best friend, Sampson. I would have LOVED this pairing, and believe that many more of the Alex Cross books would have been brought to the big screen. Not since Ian Fleming and John le Carré has a spy writer so captivated readers.”— The Hollywood Reporter The two are then surprised by the rest of the gang, and Jude and Callum point their guns at each other; Sephy takes advantage of the confusion to flee. The story ends with Callum and Jude shooting at each other. I have so many unanswered questions. I hope the next book goes more in-depth about that. You better not kill the Sandman.

In addition to the double agents, the author does look at some of the other methods the Allies used to reinforce what they where sending their German controllers. This includes the famous rubber vehicles and planes, false radio traffic, using General Patton as a decoy etc. The characters had no distinct personalities at all, Sephy and Meggie in particular just turned indistinguishable, Callie is just Sephy 2.0 and Tobey is just another Callum. It’s so disappointing and completely severs any connection I could’ve had with them. The way they talked to each other was bizarre still, for example Callies grandmother referring to Callies uncle as ‘my son’ instead of ‘your uncle’ and everyone constantly calling either other by their full name? Just felt so off to me. Meanwhile, Jezzie Flanagan has risen through the ranks to become the Secret Service’s first-ever female supervisor. The chemistry between Alex and Jezzie is palpable, and the two may not be able to stop themselves from giving in to an affair of passion despite the risks. He keeps this a secret from Callie Rose, and after they consummate their relationship, Callie Rose leaves but promises to return. The next day, when Tobey and Callie Rose meet up with their friends, Callie Rose is shot by a hail of bullets from McAuley, the boss of a gang of Noughts, the rivals to the Dowds. Her surgery is successful, but she remains in a coma. Sephy is furious at Tobey for not telling the police who shot Callie Rose, but is unaware that Tobey plans on getting revenge on McAuley himself. John Kennedy, once in office, was supposed to help Sam Giancana, Carlos Marcelo and Santo Trafficante keep carrying out their criminal activities, however, once elected, he double crossed them and placed his brother as Attorney General, who went after all of them and Jimmy Hoffa with an undisguised zeal. A second theatre adaptation of the first book titled Noughts and Crosses premiered at Derby Theatre in February 2019, and toured the UK. This stage version is adapted by Sabrina Mahfouz and directed by Esther Richardson for Pilot Theatre. [6] Born March 22, 1947, Patterson was raised in New York in Newburgh. He was the son of a school teacher and an insurance salesman, and first started writing when he was 19 years old. He attended Manhattan College and graduated in 1969. Vanderbilt University gave him a full scholarship to attend their graduate program in English. He departed there before he was able to leave with a degree thanks to complications from the Vietnam War.

I honestly had no idea that such an infuriating, temperamental, intelligent and diverse a group of people played such an important role in the success of the D Day landings, or in assisting the work of the codebreakers at Bletchley Park. They all did the work for a variety of reasons from greed to boredom to fierce hatred of the Nazis, but there is no doubting the courage of any of them, nor the complete ignorance in the Nazis in trusting in them so blindly. In a Bentley convertible behind a DC private school, Kay Willingham, a glamorous socialite, philanthropist, and the ex-wife of the vice president, is found in the arms of the school’s principal, Randall Christopher — both shot dead. The question of who was behind the double homicide, and why, plagues Cross's mind. He’d grown close to Kay when she was his patient; closer than he had with any of the others. But when he goes to Alabama looking for answers hidden in her past, he finds a world of corruption, lies, and secrets, firmly closed to outsiders. He also finds plenty of Kay’s enemies, but none who would want her dead.During the party, Tobey has sex with a woman named Misty, who becomes pregnant and gives birth to Tobey's daughter Libby. He attempts to have a relationship with her for their child's sake, but it falls apart.

Tobey – Tobey is Callie-Rose’s childhood friend. He’s also our MC. This is the first time we’ve had his POV and at first I thought that he was more than a bit of a jerk. As much as he wants us to think that his actions are purely driven by events that happen to those around him, it’s a very selfish reason that means events snowball out of control in the first place. However I like that he tried to rectify his mistakes and that on the inside he was alright. Did I like him? I’m not entirely sure, I’m edging towards no to be honest. He did too little too late for me. He was incredibly realistic though, just the sort of person you can see getting caught up in the events of ‘Double Cross’.

Success!

Superb….the story comes alive again in all its stupendous, unimaginable duplicity.…intensely readable” I have this thing with sibling incest-type events that grossed me out in this book. Can we delve more into the psychological crap to do with that? Alex's practice doesn't seem to be as booming as he once hoped it would be, haha. I enjoyed the clues and wonder how Bree feels about Alex taking over her investigation... I found the comparisons between the German and British intelligent organizations fascinating. After all, the individuals running them and operating in them were essentially equally capable, equally intelligent and equally well-resourced. So why did the British succeed where the Nazis didn't, and not only succeed, but succeed with such panache?
