About this deal

Claire, the other friend, is also the love interest, and she pulls double duty both on that and on thinking Delilah is mistreating her while she is actively hiding their relationship, continually asking Delilah to keep it secret, and generally acting like being with Delilah is something shameful.

Claire (h) was also pretty great. She was so sweet and caring, and she's been through so much :( She's a single mother, a very admirable one. I really enjoyed her character. Then there’s the fact that the author has skillfully dissected interpersonal conflicts. Any time a romance has to consider parenthood I cringe inwardly. The same is also true of misogyny. Both of these circumstances can cause an author to swerve into oncoming traffic on the way to their point, and it often comes off as heavy-handed and preachy. That’s not the case here. Every way these characters interact feels real. It straddles a line between maturity and immaturity that is, so often, at the center of every relationship. Because as much as most of us want to act like adults, we’re not always capable of doing so. I'm very, very queer," Delilah whispered, releasing the words slowly while her bottom lip brushed the shell of Claire's ear. The other woman inhaled softly, the sound fluttering low in Delilah's stomach. Because ultimately this is a story that is far more interested in how we show love to each other, than taking revenge on those who have hurt us, and I absolutely adore it for that. It is a gorgeous sapphic romance, a celebration of found family and a beautiful exploration of the way home and freedom, in the right context, with the right person, can feel like exactly the same thing. Our main character, Delilah, is a tattooed hottie who is cold and uncaring. This sounds good to me, as an aspiring tattooed hottie who is cold and uncaring. However, Delilah's internal monologue involves a lot of "everyone is mean to me!!!" when she is, in fact, a b*tch to everyone, so that's kind of a lose/lose.A fun hometown romance, planned as the start of a series of Bright Falls–set queer romances."— Library Journal, starred review and apparently they discuss the implications of this... but we aren’t privy to those conversations. again, we’re just told in a paragraph at the end of the book. Astrid has two friends, Claire and Iris. Iris thinks Delilah is weird and has since childhood, when in fact Iris is a bully and it's weird we are supposed to like her, when she tortured Delilah as an adolescent and still talks to her in the exact same way and generally does not appear to have changed very much. Astrid (Delilah's sister) was a tough one. I felt for her by the end but it was so tough to like her at the beginning. I'm looking forward to her having her gay awakening though 😌, that's going to be fun. A clever and steamy queer romantic comedy about taking chances and accepting love – with all its complications. Perfect for fans of Alexandria Bellefleur, Casey McQuiston and Rosie Danan.

I wanted the tension of Claire’s emotional conflict to be drawn out more. It would have given the book more depth. I ended up feeling like a bit more could have been done with Delilah and her angst, too. The reason for her fear of commitment was brought up but then faded from the story easily. That took away some of its substance. A hot, frothy romcom with a relatable heart beating at its centre. I loved every hilarious character, every outrageous shenanigan – and most of all, I loved Delilah Green. I can’t wait for the rest of the series! ‘ Talia Hibbert, New York Times bestselling author of Act Your Age, Eve Brown Claire is bisexual and has been divorced for nine years. She and her ex-husband, Josh, share an eleven-year-old daughter, Ruby, and on rare occasion, a bed. Josh is irresponsible, always obsessed with one project or another, and has disappointed Ruby in the past by failing to show up. He and Claire also disagree about how to raise her; Josh is indulgent and it is up to Claire to set boundaries. Nevertheless, he is attractive and convenient. Claire is all too aware that sleeping with him once in a while is a bad habit and it’s one she wants to break. Having raised her daughter mostly on her own while dealing with her unreliable ex and running a bookstore, Claire depends upon a life without surprises. And Delilah Green is an unwelcome surprise . . . at first. Though they’ve known each other for years, they don’t really know each other – so Claire is unsettled when Delilah figures out exactly what buttons to push. And when they’re forced together during the many wedding preparations, Claire isn’t sure she has the strength to resist Delilah’s charms. Even worse, she’s starting to think she doesn’t want to . . .

On top of that, there’s the romance which we didn’t get to see develop, because of the above mentioned useless plot points. Delilah stepped into her space, arms on either side of Claire's hips, braced against the counter and hemming her in. Instinctively, Claire's hands went to Delilah's waist, fingers curling through the cotton of her shirt. She tugged a little, pulling Delilah that much closer. Their hips aligned, breasts, not an inch of space between their bodies. She relaxed as the room came into focus, felt the softness of expensive sheets under her fingers. The bedroom was filled with modern furniture, all straight lines and cream-colored wood. Sophisticated art dappled the walls, expertly hung. An open door led into a living area, which Delilah now distinctly remembered as the scene where-Lana? Lily?-had pushed her onto a very posh white couch and slid Delilah's underwear off, tossing it over her own bare shoulder. The friendships in this book were so much fun as well and I couldn’t help but fall a little in love with Delilah and Iris. *lol* Those two were so funny together and I’m really glad there are two other books in this series because I can’t wait to see more of their shenanigans and antics. I’m especially looking forward to Iris’s story and hope the other characters will have cameos in it too. Iris might have only been a side-character in here, but boy did her interactions with Claire, Astrid and Delilah give me life. This woman is great and definitely deserves her own book! I’m very happy she got it. ;-)You’re what?” Delilah asked. “The mom? The woman? So that means you have to give up your whole life and he doesn’t?” She'd say that and a lot worse if you're about to cancel on her only daughter's wedding on such short notice." One of the friends is named Iris and this is so dumb but they shorten her name to Ris and that bothered me. Her name is only TWO syllables and got shorten it?? Hate hate hate. And Iris was annoying overall.
