Dare was formed in 1985 by former Thin Lizzy keyboard player Darren Wharton after Phil Lynott had dissolved the band. [2] By 1987, Dare had gained a local following in Oldham and were signed with a four-year deal by A&M Records. [3] Something of a departure, ‘Grace’, while being another piano led ballad initially, building in part though not overtly, its main focus being the convincing narrative portrayed of a brief encounter, romance if you will, on a train. however, where the song could well have been a little melancholic in terms of its musicaldirection, the arrangement is such that it avoids this, well, to a degree at least. The chorus is instant and hits you in the sweet spot with immediate effect as it’s plainlyobvious why this was chosen as the leading single from the album. A short, but nicely arranged guitarsolo is added straight after the second chorus, before we make our exit from the song with atmospheric sound, and anthem like melodies that has become the bands trademark. So what is the material like on Road To Eden? Well, “quite stunning” is the simple answer and I’d argue that this might well be Dare’s finest work since their mighty debut. The first thing that you notice is that Vinny Burns’ guitar sound is full, powerful and highly effective.
