About this deal

The Cyrus soundBuds 2 earpieces offer simple touch-sensitive controls – which, unlike plenty of true wireless pairs, appear to work just fine. Cyrus didn’t get too ambitious here, using just taps rather than taps and swipe gestures. Battery life is rated at an unremarkable five hours per charge, and the case holds enough power for three additional charges.

Like battery life for example. The soundBuds 2 has a five hour battery life, with a further 15 hours charge time within the case. It’s not too bad really. Five hours worth of music? That’s a day’s work, easy. Cyrus soundBuds sound quality − In terms of audio quality, these in-ears fail to live up to expectations Well, we have already mentioned the comfort and secure hold of the Cyrus soundBuds, but we would like to emphasize that these inears did not cause us any problems even when used for hours. They really sit bomb-proof in the ear without even pressing at the beginning, so that the discreetly expressed criticism that only three different ear tips are included here can be put into perspective. We can only confirm that the Cyrus soundBuds are also very suitable for sports. These earphones don’t support any of the advanced aptX codecs, just standard SBC and AAC. But now Android supports AAC as standard, this is less of an issue than it once was. However, latency was actually lower with SBC in my OnePlus Nord test phone, so you might want to play around with the codecs to see which works best. We switch to The Streets’ Fit But You Know It and while it’s a decent, relatively transparent listen, the difference in dynamics and bass depth are laid bare. It’s less exciting and entertaining than our comparison set, albeit at a more affordable price. VerdictCyrus’ second-generation soundBuds2 ‘True wireless Stereo’ in-ear headphones build upon the solid foundations of the first iteration. The TWS50s also offer the option of listening in mono, on just one headphone, should you wish. It’s perhaps useful if you want to hear your surroundings (there’s no ANC onboard) or conserve the battery. In this respect, Cyrus Audio Ltd. does not compromise with the Cyrus soundBuds, because the sound quality of the in-ear headphones is really convincing. However, one must not make the mistake of comparing Cyrus soundBuds with solutions in the same price range that are certainly trying to make a certain amount of showmanship, for example by showing off a bit too much bass or by emphasizing an exaggeration in the lower frequency range as being intentional, as is the case with many products designed for sporting activities. Verdict:The Cyrus soundBuds 2 produce a clean and neutral sound but I wouldn’t say they offer anything more than countless other brands selling true wireless earbuds around this price point. I think they sounded a little disappointing to my ears but perhaps I was just expecting a little too much because of the pedigree behind the Cyrus name. The fit was a problem for my ears and perhaps the earbuds might have sounded better if the fit had matched my ear size. There’s nothing wrong the Cyrus soundBuds 2 but I think you can do a bit better for the money by looking at something like the excellent Soundpeats H1. Cyrus’ SoundBuds 2 have an improved audio quality and accuracy due to their highly developed 6mm rivers. They also feature ‘True Wireless Stereo’ Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, which is perfect for when listening on the go and maintaining a secure connection. Battery Life

The soundBuds2 offer a carefully balanced sound with a neutral tone and excellent dynamic range. Designed for audio enthusiasts who prefer to hear their music without artificial emphasis, they deliver a natural and insightful performance, in the compact size our modern lives demand. Higher-fidelity sound has been prioritized over ‘signal processing’, so they operate without the phasing artefacts of noise-cancellation. The Cyrus soundBuds 2 include 6mm drivers. I find such drivers often provide the best balance of power and precision in earphones, despite their small size. However, this isn’t really the case here. You’ll be disappointed to learn, then, that they fail to live up to these expectations – but not in every respect. Thetone of the soundBuds2comes across as very well balanced with a neutral sound that isn’t too bass-heavy or harsh in the upper frequencies. The dynamic drivers are relatively small, but the sound isn’t weak. It makes a nice change to hear a pair of earbuds that haven’t been tuned up to create as sound that’s too bold and exciting, but makes the listener’s ears tired in just a few minutes. The dynamic range of the soundBuds 2 is good and Cyrus has opted to prioritize the audio quality instead of relying on excessive ‘signal processing’.So it is quite clear that one manufacturer after the other has come up with such solutions in recent months, first and foremost, of course, proven headphone specialists, but interestingly enough also many a manufacturer who has so far made little or no appearance in the headphone sector, including the English high-end hi-fi manufacturer Cyrus Audio Ltd. I actually used a different pair of tips to review the Cyrus soundBuds 2’s sound because I found the bundled silicone tips pretty terrible. Their shape appeared to collapse too much if they’re not a good fit for your ear canal, and I wasn’t able to get a decent seal with any of the three sizes. Slight latency was noticeable with SBC, but not bad enough to put you off watching some YouTube or Netflix while travelling. Sound quality

Three pairs of tips are included in the box, and a couple of sets of silicone hooks, which stabilise the Cyrus soundBuds 2 in your ears. They’re optional in theory, but the earpieces look like they’re missing a piece without them attached. The Cambridge Audio Melomania 1s time better through Tyler’s almost rapped vocal and also offer more refinement through the upper frequencies. In this respect, it is not surprising that Cyrus Audio Ltd. has decided on an in-ear headphone and a cable-free version, because this is not only very much in vogue, it is clearly a segment with a future. If we anticipated the audiophile sound quality that we’ve come to expect from the Cyrus brand, we didn’t quite find it in the soundBuds. At this level though, that’s no surprise at all. The Cyrus soundBuds come in a small, elegantly designed box, so you want to convey to the customer at first glance that he is holding something really fine in his hands. If you open the box, you can see the really tiny earplugs as well as an equally pleasingly small storage box.

Before you actually use the Cyrus soundBuds, you should choose the best fitting variant from the unfortunately only three attachments, the so-called Ear Tips. The Cyrus soundBuds are made of silicone and have a special shape. This does not apply to the part that is pushed directly into the auditory canal, which is quite conventional. Instead, the Ear Tips of the Cyrus soundBuds have a kind of small bow that helps to hold the Cyrus soundBuds particularly securely in the ear, in this case they are “anchored” in the auricle. The manufacturer refers to this as soft hooks. You don’t have to worry that this could be annoying in any way; on the contrary, they offer excellent wearing comfort.

For the initial operation, the left and right plug should be coupled first. For this purpose, essentially the entire front side of the plugs is designed as a button. One press on both plugs, and after the status LEDs flash briefly, a synthetic-looking lady’s voice signals that the coupling is complete. Coupling with the source device is just as unproblematic, which is probably primarily a smartphone. Here, too, the lady’s voice in the ear signals that the coupling has been completed. By the way, the coupling between the two earplugs only has to be carried out once, after which both must be “switched on”, but the pairing is carried out automatically by True Wireless Stereo (TWS). From a technical standpoint… While not as even-handed as RHA's TrueConnect 2, these true wireless buds delivered a wonderfully rich performance of Laura Nyro's Stoned Soul Picnic. The guitar's leading-edge sounded bright and sharp, while the horns were punchy and gloriously crisp. This mix really played to the soundBuds 2's talented midband. They also proved themselves to have a decent amount of grip and a fine sense of timing, although their presentation was not as richly dynamic as the Grado set. THE VERDICT The case feels relatively cheap, then, but the plastic at least keeps the weight down and there’s a useful charge indicator on the front. The LEDs light up when you put the Cyrus soundBuds 2 earphones in, to show they’re charging and the power remaining in the case. They also light up when you plug the case itself in, over USB-C. The Cyrus soundBuds 2’s dynamics are far more limited, making music sound flat and rhythmically inert. It isn’t much the tonal makeup of these earphones that’s the issue; but that they can’t deliver tunes with all that much drive or energy. The soundBuds come from a true enthusiast hi-fi brand. As a result, expectations for their sound quality are set pretty high, even if they cost about 10% of the price of the average Cyrus product. In principle the Cyrus soundBuds have a first “charge”, which is probably enough for testing. Nevertheless, you should first charge it completely, which took about three to four hours in our test.
