About this deal

Take a guided quad biking tour of the lagoon wetlands or have a relaxing massage or spa treatment (both available at the neighbouring lodge at extra cost)

The owner shall not be liable for any temporary defect or malfunction of any equipment, machinery or appliance in the building or grounds. In making a booking you accept responsibility for any theft, breakage or damage caused by you or any member of your party and agree to indemnify us in full for any loss that we may incur as a result. There aren’t many shops in the near vicinity, so come prepared if you have very small smalls. Sustainability efforts As the action in Coot Club occurs in the Easter holidays, it's worth noting the actual (native) date for Easter Sunday: Tweaks are simple. If you’re pressed for time, simply skip the Overberg. For a complete change of scenery, we return to Cape Town via the semi-desert Karoo region. But an Eastern Cape safari also makes a simple addition (see expert tips below).

Save time, save money!

Mrs Barrable was Mrs Callum's school mistress long ago; she is a painter and the sister of Richard, a famous portrait painter; she is a visitor but was born at Beccles.

unknown dates: Postscript (everyone goes home, Richard paints our baby, Death and Glory gets refurbished) The Callum children spend their Easter holidays on The Broads with family friend, Mrs Barrable, who is staying on the small yacht Teasel, moored near the village of Horning. There they encounter the Coot Club, a gang of local children comprising Tom Dudgeon, twin girls 'Port' and 'Starboard' (Bess and Nell Farland), and three younger boys — Joe, Bill and Pete (the "Death and Glories"). The Coot Club was formed to protect local birds and their nests from egg collectors and other disturbances. Protecting wild birds was a relatively new concept at the time. Younger children (8-10?) will find this book especially enjoyable, I think, because of the way that the children seem to drive the story and are responsible for what happens, be it good or bad. The involvement of adults is very limited, mostly only to one woman on one larger boat with some of the children, who is there more for her own adventure and does not dictate or boss around the children at all. The children in this book are free to do as they please, and in fact, what they please is to protect nesting birds who are in danger of being harmed by other out-of-town adults who rent a large motor boat and go roaring dangerously around the waterways. Beccles - There are Co-op, Morrisons and Tesco supermarkets as well as a wide choice of takeaways, fish and chip shops, restauranst and pubs as well as a couple of well known pizza chains. Tenancies normally commence at 3pm unless otherwise agreed and guests are required to vacate the apartment by 11am on the day of departure. This allows the accommodation to be thoroughly cleaned and prepared for incoming guests. Guests are required to empty the bins, place recycling in the recycling area, clean dishes and strip the beds.

The Norfolk wherry Sir Garnett gives the twins a lift when they need to catch up with the Teasel. They also get a lift from the fictional Thames barge, Welcome of Rochester. Ransome researched the book during the summer of 1933 and encountered SB Pudge of Rochester. He wrote to the owners, LRTC (London & Rochester Trading Company) for details of the cargoes Pudge carried, the routes the Pudge sailed, and which bridges she could pass under. The book describes the cabin and stateroom, and the newly fitted petrol auxiliary engine. Pudge was later fitted with the more powerful Kelvin K3 66HP engine that is present today. Ransome's description has been useful in the restoration of the Pudge. [1] Film, TV or theatrical adaptations [ edit ] There are several societies for studying and promoting Ransome's work, notably this series. The earliest was the Arthur Ransome Club in Japan. The British-based Arthur Ransome Society has an international membership. Besides working on the casting flaws noted above, I'd shoot any and all adults from, at most, the eye level of the tallest child. Maybe I'd go so far as to shoot the tallest children, when appropriate from the eye level of the shortest children.

On arrival we had to hunt for any staff, in the rain. We were then told we were in another cottage, not to our requirements. No help was offered to get our luggage into the cottage in the rain, in fact, no one at all came near us in the cottage. The building was freezing cold, no fire lit and NO dry wood. To make the situation even more dispiriting, we were told we had to BUY firefighters! Stay in the Boathouses if your little ones are swim-confident, and all but the Stone Cottage Fynbos can cater to the most fulsome family getaways. Activities We travelled to South Africa for a two week family holiday and stayed at lots of different places and ended our trip here. The story takes off from one of the boys letting the boat a group of annoying out-of-town holidaymakers (who get termed the hullaballoos) drift off so as not to disturb a coot's nest. The D's and their Aunt, helped by groups of local children, then help shelter this boy by taking him up the Norfolk Broads as they learn the ropes. There is plenty of jeopardy as they try and avoid the hullaballoos, navigate the treacherous tides, and work out who they can trust and who they can't. There is also a fun cameo of heroism by the Aunt's pug dog William. In 2010, a stage musical version of the first book in the series was created at Bristol Old Vic, adapted by Helen Edmundson with music by Neil Hannon, and directed by Tom Morris. The show was toured, including a stint in London's West End.Look here, dad, what would you do if the only way to get to our baby was up this dyke, and mother and you and me were all on the other side of the river, and a huge motor-cruiser was fixed right across the opening of the dyke, so that none of us could get in, and our baby was all alone, and we knew that if we didn't get to him soon he'd go and die?" Little ones who can walk confidently, juniors, tweens, and teens will all have a fantastic time here. Recommended rooms Unique experiences can be arranged with a local marine forager and artist (min. 4 people, book well in advance)

So Tom joins the crew of the Teasel with Mrs. Barrable and her dog William, towing his dinghy Titmouse. Port and Starboard initially stay home so they can crew Flash in yacht races with their father, but when he has to go away on a legal case they hitch-hike aboard a series of friendly passing boats in pursuit of the Teasel and (eventually) join the others in Beccles.

Tom's birthday was probably not too long before the story starts, as the stuff from Norwich was a "birthday present" (probably bought with birthday money). We or our representative reserve the right to enter the apartment at any time to undertake essential maintenance or for inspection purposes. In the year 1931, Easter Sunday fell on: April 5th (see 1929-1930-1931 paradox for discussion on whether CC occurred in 1931) As a working yard shared with the pleasant comings and goings of the local wildlife, during the day there are boats coming and going, so there is a real buzz about the place.
