About this deal

Colic doesn’t cause any short-term or long-term problems for your baby. But colic can be difficult for parents. It can be hard to care for babies who don’t stop crying. You may feel overwhelmed or frustrated. If you’re feeling this way, it’s important to ask for help. Ask someone close to you to help watch your baby. Never shake or harm your child. Shaking a baby can cause serious brain damage and even death. If you feel like you might shake or harm your baby, get help right away. Put some lube on the tip before you insert it, and have a diaper on hand because things can get messy. Burp (or wind) your baby during and after every feed – have a look at burping your baby for techniques. Sit your baby up Simeticone often comes combined with other ingredients such as medicines to treat indigestion ( antacids) or diarrhoea. When it's combined with other ingredients, brand names include Maalox Plus and Imodium Plus. Key facts

Infant cereal or other solid foods. Your infant baby isn't ready to digest solid food, and giving it to your baby won't help them feel better. Colic relief drops: Liquid colic relievers usually come in bottles with a dropper or oral syringe. These solutions are intended to help a variety of baby ailments, including gas, colic, upset stomachs, reflux, and hiccups — all things that can lead to excessive fussiness. Many colic relief drops contain the probiotic Lactobacillus reuteri (L. reuteri), which the AAP says shows "encouraging" evidence of improving colic symptoms. Constipation. Poo tends to be hard and not passed very often. Babies may cry and go red in the face when trying to pass a hard poo. Despite the characteristic inconsolable nature of the crying, it may be possible to reduce colic symptoms by trying different soothing techniques, as some babies may respond better to some techniques than others. Simeticone is a mixture of silica gel and dimeticone (or dimethicone), a type of silicone, and is also known as activated dimeticone. It works by bringing together the small gas bubbles in your gut to form bigger bubbles, allowing trapped air to pass through your body more easily. It’s normal for babies to fuss and cry. Babies who have colic cry more than most babies, even though they’re otherwise healthy. Other features of colic can include:Milk intolerance or allergy. Two to 3 percent of babies have tummy pain due to an intolerance or allergy to cow's milk protein. If you think your baby might be sensitive to an ingredient in their formula, talk to your pediatrician. They might suggest switching to an extensively hydrolyzed formula.

Sensitivity to foods you eat. If you're breastfeeding, temporarily avoiding dairy products, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, soy, and fish in your diet could help reduce colic symptoms. One study found that when breastfeeding moms avoided these foods for 10 days, 74 percent of infants under 6 weeks old cried and fussed less. Sit your baby up as straight as possible while feeding. This will help minimise the amount of air they swallow. Attachment Little Remedies Gas Relief Drops contain simethicone, which the AAP says is safe to give to your baby up to 12 times a day to break up gas bubbles and relieve bloating and gas pain. These gas relief drops don't have any added ingredients, so parents can feel good about giving it to their babies. You can squirt the solution into your baby's mouth, or mix it with formula, water, or breast milk; babies tend to like the natural berry flavor. Windi the Gaspasser is a hollow plastic tube that you insert in your baby's butt to help him fart and, hopefully, relieve tummy discomfort caused by pent-up gas. The disposable, single-use tube is soft and pliable, with a rounded tip and a stopper to prevent you from pushing it in too far. Wait 30 minutes, shaking the formula occasionally, then feed your infant as normal, making sure that the formula is at the correct temperature.Gelfand A 2016. Infant colic. You can also feed it to your baby on a spoon. Take a break. Take turns with your spouse or partner, or ask a friend to take over for a while. Give yourself an opportunity to get out of the house if possible. Tummy problems: Many think gastrointestinal issues play a part in colic. You can help reduce your baby's gas by feeding him upright, burping him, and making sure he has a good latch and/or the right bottle (ask your pediatrician for suggestions if you need help).

Colic can start a few weeks after birth. It’s generally the worst between 4 and 6 weeks of age. Babies usually grow out of colic by the time they are 3 to 4 months old. Symptoms of colic Don't judge yourself. Don't measure your success as a parent by how much your baby cries. Colic isn't a result of poor parenting, and inconsolable crying isn't a sign of your baby rejecting you. Lactase (for example, the brand Colief®). This is sometimes used for lactose intolerance. Again, there is not yet any convincing evidence that it is helpful for babies with colic. Nemours Foundation. 2019. Go for a walk with your baby in their stroller. Or go for a drive with your baby in their car seat. Gerber Good Start Soothe Comforting Probiotic Drops are designed to support your baby's digestive health, which may help relieve colic and gas. The drops contain L. reuteri, a probiotic that has been shown to cut down crying time in breastfed babies, and parents say they really work. Gripe water. This is a substance which has been around for over a century. Depending on the brand and country, it contains different ingredients. Originally, it contained alcohol and sugar and so perhaps it was no wonder that it helped babies go to sleep. Usually modern versions do not contain alcohol or sugar but there is no evidence that it is effective for colic. One commonly used brand contains dill, sugar substitute and sodium hydrogen carbonate (baking soda). Another contains a mixture of herbs. Internationally, feeding advice is generally that healthy babies don't need anything other than milk up to the age of 6 months. They should not be given any additional substances unless there is a medical indication. As there is no evidence for gripe water being effective, colic would not usually be considered a medical indication.
