It has a lot of harry potter references which can you find just okay like me or can really annoy you. I didnt mind it but i get why people would be annoyed by it. The story does feels a bit rushed. Actually I’m kinda afraid that I’ll fall head over heels for all of her other books. I loved following Cassidy and her ghost friend, Jacob, along their journey in Edinburgh. despite this book being quite short, go through quite an adventure. I loved the dynamics between them and they way they interacted really. Their friend is just so cute and precious and I love it. Cool an dem Buch ist gleich von Anfang an, dass es mit einer Ortskarte von Edinburgh ausgestattet ist. Ich war erst in Edinburgh, das macht die ganze Geschichte für mich natürlich noch viel spannender. Vorallem finde ich es schön, dass der Ort wirklich so beschrieben ist, wie er eben in echt ist. Eine tolle Geschichte rund herum gibt es also definitiv. Jetzt würde ich gerne gleich nochmal dort hin gehen :) vorallem weil es unglaublich viele verschiedene Geistergeschichten in diesem Buch gibt, denen ich gerne in Edinburgh selbst noch nachgehen würde. Hätte ich dieses Buch doch nur das letzte mal schon gekannt xD

Archived from the original on March 18, 2021. When I first read the blurb, I was in love with the concept of the story. A girl who can see ghosts? Traveling to a city full of them? With a ghost best friend? Then meets another person who can see ghosts? HELL YEAH. Because of this the main story wasn’t that spooky. A lot of the story wasn’t as spooky as it could have been. It just didn’t do it for me. It was a fast read though so that’s good!

OK, OK. I may have exaggerated a lot here but what I am trying to say is that this is a Middle Grade book and we should approach it as one. I don’t deny that I wish it was bigger, with more action and creepier. But that’s just how MG books are. I think someone who reads a lot of MG will be able to judge it better than most of us. Let’s be honest, we all know V.E. Schwab and how she is a great writer and always comes up with awesome twists and ideas. I think if this was an adult book, she would have done an outstanding job. I rate this book with 4 stars because I was not as involved in the story, and did not get as warm with the main character as I would have liked it to be. Nevertheless, I can highly recommend this book for anyone who loves a good ghost story or two.
