About this deal

That said, it should work fine if you use an eyepiece with a longer focal length and a barlow. For example, a 10mm and 3x will produce 100x but with better results. Anyone who has a telescope will tell you that you can’t have too many eyepieces. Every eyepiece offers a different magnification and a different field of view. In the FirstScope Accessory Kit, you will get two 1.25” eyepieces. One is a 12.5 mm model, and will magnify objects 24X more than your eyes alone can see. The second eyepiece is a 6 mm, and will boost the power even further, to 50X. Remember, the lower the number of the eyepiece, the higher the magnification! Surprisingly, the user’s ability to aim the Celestron FirstScope 76 is more important than its optics when it comes to how well it works. Anything besides the Moon, planets, or any other naked-eye visible target is going to be a bit of a challenge to find. The 20mm Huygens… works. Barely. The apparent field of view is extremely narrow (30 degrees), and the view is fuzzier than it already would be with a good eyepiece in the Celestron FirstScope. The Huygens design also adds some chromatic aberration (something one should never see in a Newtonian). A real Kellner or Plossl delivers much sharper views, but buying one would cost a significant proportion of the overall cost of the telescope.

The third telescope from this range is the COSMOS FirstScope. It’s again the same build as all the telescopes from this range. The scope itself is inside a plastic bag and is held in place by a combination of molded foam and card, while the eyepieces are inside a smaller box. The Celestron FirstScope has no finder. You’re supposed to simply sight along the tube. With the low-power 20mm eyepiece that comes with the scope, which only magnifies 15x, this is easy enough to do, but it may take some practice. Moon map and legend — Familiarize yourself with the Moon, our neighboring world with the help of our handheld Moon map. The Moon map comes complete with a legend highlighting 17 key features to explore including Sea of Tranquility, Tycho, Plato, Copernicus and many more. Bright, big nebulae like Orion and the Lagoon can be seen through the FirstScope, but for the best views, the sky needs to be dark. There are a few different options you could choose from instead of the FirstScope, including improved variants sporting additional features and vastly superior accessories: Any 1.25" eyepiece supplied with PowerSeeker and AstroMaster telescope kits or any eyepieces with a 34mm outside diameter Weighing in at a mere 4.3 lbs. (1.95 kilograms), the FirstScope is ideal for those looking for a "grab-and-go" instrument. On close inspection of the overall build, we discovered that the finish isn't perfect with traces of glue apparent on the tube. However, considering what you get for the price, we did note that the telescope's plastics are not glossy and cheap compared to other instruments that fall in a similar price range. Lastly, the widest components of the golden double star Algieba in Leo were clearly seen, but the primary star itself was not split, even at 100x. Target Audience

Important safety note: inspect your filter before every use. Do not use and discard if damaged, torn, punctured, or separated from the frame in any way. This compact, lightweight telescope is an ideal entry-level astronomical telescope. Just remove it from the box, insert an eyepiece, and you are ready to view. To navigate the sky, simply rotate the azimuth axis in the direction of your desired object. It doesn't get much simpler or more portable than the FirstScope. The finderscope is most useful to the first two models in this range as they don’t include any finderscope. When you’re ready, you’ll need to insert the lowest power eyepiece you have – this will be the eyepiece with the largest number on it. For example, the FirstScope comes with a 20mm and a 4mm eyepiece. The 20mm will produce a magnification of 15x with the FirstScope, while the 4mm will give you 75x, so the 20mm is the one to use.

The Pleiades can always be relied upon to put on a good show, so if the FirstScope didn’t produce a good image of the cluster, it would have been a problem. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case, as the stars appeared sharp and blue, with the occasional white star visible among them. The finderscope is a nice addition but overall the first model in this range along with the FinderScope accessory kit is a better option. Instead of buying more accessories for the Celestron FirstScope 76mm Newtonian reflector telescope, you should save up for a better telescope, which will come with better accessories anyway. What can you see with the Celestron FirstScope?

The Moon is beautiful, but it is bright, especially when full. A Moon Filter works the same way sunglasses do for your eyes on a bright, sunny day. The filter lowers the amount of light reaching your eye, and allows it to relax and see details that would not be visible in an unfiltered view of the Moon due to glare. The Moon Filter screws onto the barrel of all of your 1.25” eyepieces, giving you a choice of filtered magnification. (Note: Do not use the Moon filter for solar observation.) Celestron FirstScope Accessory Kit – worth buying, if only for the finderscope and carry bag, but also includes a lunar filter, plus a 2.5mm eyepiece (120x) and 6mm eyepiece (50x).

First the optical tube has the COSMOS – A space odyssey wrap on it. It gives the tube a nice look but doesn’t chance the optics or the power of the telescope at all. Also keeping aligned with the COSMOS theme, the telescope comes come with a poster highlighting the evolution of the universe starting from the big bang up until the creation of Earth. Overall this might be an ideal first telescope for your kid as it has enough power to enable the discovery of the moon and our solar system. It’s also very portable weighing only 4lbs (2kg) in total which is a very strong point for this telescope. Turn your telescope, spotting scope, or DSLR camera into a solar scope! The EclipSmart Universal Solar Filter is a must-have accessory perfect for viewing the Sun and eclipses like the upcoming 2023 Annular Solar Eclipse and 2024 Total Solar Eclipse. Affordable, easy to use, and best of all, Solar Safe, this filter conforms to the ISO 12312-2:2015(E) international safety standard. The EclipSmart Universal Solar Filter has a solar filter aperture of 60mm and works with any optic or lens measuring 75 to 100 mm in diameter, including telescopes, spotting scopes, and DSLR camera lenses. The solar filter fits around your optical device with adjustable side panels that secure with a rubber band for a snug fit. We include (2) rubber bands, but we recommend that you change out the bands frequently. To replace use #32 rubber bands. When it’s not in use, fold the filter flat and place it inside the reusable bag.

Barlow Lens - The included, and very versatile 2X Barlow doubles the magnification of any 1.25” eyepiece. Since this kit includes five (5) eyepieces, you will be able to use them with and without the Barlow, giving you a total of ten magnification options in all. Any other 1.25” eyepieces you already have will also work in this desirable accessory, giving you even more magnification choices. Remember, high magnifications do not always produce clear, sharp results, especially on evenings of poor or moderate seeing conditions. Experiment to find the magnifications that are best for your telescope on a particular night. Forget observing planetary nebulae—they’re too small to identify at 20x and trying to increase the power will, of course, only lead to blurry views. The only alternatives to the FirstScope in its price range are basically rebrands or upgrades with better eyepieces and/or finderscopes, such as the Orion FunScope or Celestron Cometron FirstScope. Accessories include a 20mm and 4mm eyepiece, a finderscope, a smartphone adapter, a moon filter, and a motor drive. The two eyepieces offer different magnifications for low and high powered views. The 3x Barlow lens triples the magnifying power of each eyepiece.
