About this deal

In DISTRUST, her name was S. Rudenburg. It is unknown exactly what the S stands for, but it is likely Selestia or Serestia, following the romanization of "Ludenberg" to "Rudenberg".

In alternative university, it is revealed that Celeste was never evil individual and was only the victim that went through the brainwashing that made her into this character. Including other posthumous students and survivors, her identity is used by Tsumugi Shirogane as she sometimes speaks.Junko Enoshima • Mukuro Ikusaba • Izuru Kamukura • Akane Owari • Chiaki Nanami • Chisa Yukizome • Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu • Gundham Tanaka • Hiyoko Saionji • Ibuki Mioda • Kazuichi Soda • Mahiru Koizumi • Mikan Tsumiki • Nagito Komaeda • Nekomaru Nidai • Peko Pekoyama • Ryota Mitarai • Super High School Level Imposter • Sonia Nevermind • Teruteru Hanamura During her school years, she wore dark-hued panties. The tulle lace is of a regal quality, giving off the distinct vibe of a queen. Supposedly a C-rank human cannot stand gazing upon them, likely due to the fact that she considers them a lower status of even her fine clothing. Beyond a surface level, it makes sense. She is the Ultimate Gambler, and to succeed in underground gambling, she has to be as ruthless and devoid of empathy as possible as it's a harsh environment. It's the reason why she attained such a title in the first place. Villain's Dying Grace: She keeps up the group's charade regarding Alter Ego even as she walks to her execution and tells the others where she hid it without giving the game away to Monokuma.

Trauma Swing: The manga shows her sitting on one in her youth, looking very lonely and surrounded by words like "mediocre" and "boring". As the Class Trial begun, Makoto Naegi managed to piece the information that Yasuhiro was innocent and eventually suspected Celestia, from various blunders she made throughout the case. This is where Celestia's facade drops and she starts screaming madly trying to 'defend' her innocence. However, Makoto pushed on and eventually Celestia realized that she lost the case, and decided to accept her punishment with grace instead of squirming out. After handing Kyoko Kirigiri the key she used to hide Alter Ego, she bid the students farewell and hopes that they'll meet again in another life. Maybe, but it may be good to at least find out who we all are before digging into the bigger problems here. I mean, how are we even supposed to talk to each other if we do not know each other's names?" Decoy Damsel: Invoked this as part of her manipulations, as this is how she got Hifumi to kill Kiyotaka for her. Condescending Compassion: Does this to Naegi when he starts arguing against her narrative of Hagakure killing Ishimaru and Hifumi, telling him that it's okay if he screws up because nobody expects much from him anyways.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc Celestia Ludenberg 1/7 Scale Figure

Celestia believes in adaptability to be the key to survival, rather than strength or intellect, and she acts upon this by setting up measures such as the voluntarily imposed night-time curfew to protect the other students, as well as herself, from potential killers during the Killing School Life. She often reminds others to obey the curfew and is often annoyed when people such as Byakuya Togami violate the curfew, showing her authoritative and commanding nature. After the death of Chihiro, she coldly remarks that people who disobey the rules pay the price. In reality, she was lying about having to adapt and more than anyone wanted to leave the school, showing how easy it is for her to hide her emotions. The name “Celestia” is a given name of Latin origin which means “heavenly”, unsurprisingly, Celestia chose this name for herself to represent her fine decadence. Celestia's self-styled last name, “Ludenberg”, is most probably a combination of the Latin verb “ludere”, meaning “to play”, with the common suffix for last names of German or Dutch origin “-berg”, meaning “mountain” - thus making the last name Celestia came up with for herself consistent with both her title and her false claim that she is of German ancestry. While Celestia is her full fake name, she also doesn't mind being referred to as “Celes” by other characters in the Japanese version of the game, while in the localization the characters call her “Celeste.” It might also be that Celestia's last name is a combination of Erich Ludendorff and Paul Von Hindenburg last names, both men being of German ancestry which Celestia herself aspired towards. Celestia's made-up surname also matches the name of a district in Dusseldorf, further befitting her false claims of German ancestry. It is clear the last name Ludenberg is of heavy German descent. The Generic Girl: The manga shows that her true identity as Taeko Yasuhiro was so boring and ordinary that no one ever noticed her. When she discovered her talent as a gambler, she decided to re-invent herself as someone more interesting, taking on the "Celestia Ludenberg" persona in a desperate attempt to look special. After the students found out that there no way to escape Hope's Peak Academy on the first floor, Celestia sweetly suggested that they simply adapt to their new lives to prevent anyone from getting hurt. Taking leadership over the group, she decreed that no one should be allowed to go out of their dormitory at nighttime, which wasn't specified in the student handbook. Everyone agreed to comply with Celestia's rule to lower the odds of someone getting killed. The top flap of the box has the shiny yellow Academy crest, and I thought this part was also done very nicely.

The white lace bonnet over her head is nicely detailed with many folds and there are hints of purple shading on the lace. The side hair strands and bonnet ribbons are fragile so do exercise caution meddling around those areas. In her personal ranking, Celestia initially ranks Makoto with a D-rank, which is the same as her other classmates and most other people. During their Free Time Events together, Celestia was friendly and polite (barring the occasional insult) with Makoto. She warmed up to him as a friend and opened up a little about her childhood, stating she originated from Japan and liked the food gyoza, something which Makoto was more inclined to believe.

She takes great steps in forming an air-tight alibi in case three, however because of the sheer number of coincidences surrounding her thanks to her plan, she's left as the only possible culprit and her plot to make herself look completely innocent proves to be her undoing. I Hate Past Me: To an extreme degree, with the manga showing it to be her primary motivation for adopting the Celestia Ludenburg persona and for wanting to become a renowned gambler and eventual castle-owning multi-millionaire. Everything about Taeko Yasuhiro is plain and powerless and even her ultimate talent is a passive one, so Celestia was created as a means of escapism from all that. The fact that you automatically associate the library with studying reveals your intellectual level." Graceful Loser: Though that might be a lie. She still owes up to her real name and Alter Ego's hiding place once she finally gives up, however, as an attempt to invoke this. Also she didn't even bother in cursing on Makoto for defeating and exposing her, which would've been in-line with her true, snappy self and selfish desires and motives.

That Woman Is Dead: Her very persona as Celestia Ludenberg is a rejection of her past as Taeko Yasuhiro, vehemently denying that she could ever have such a 'plain' name as 'Yasuhiro' when confronted about her real name. The manga plays this up even more, even after she's owned up to her real name, insisting that above all else, she still has to persist as Celestia Ludenberg. Another good indicator of this is in the second episode of the anime. After seeing Junko/Mukuro getting killed, she coolly suggests that the students start investigating Sayaka's death, and smiles in the middle of her 'Gendo Pose' while saying that they reaped what they sowed, which Aoi immediately calls her out on. Also, when seeing that scene, while others (except Byakuya and Kyoko) look horrified and Toko just passed out, Celeste just keeps her usual expression of 'put hands in front of mouth as if saying "Oh my."' Jerkass Has a Point: Despite her callousness about the results of people failing to keep curfew (even though she breaks it herself), she has a point that it's the best way to prevent murders:

When Makoto Naegi introduced himself, he immediately questioned Celestia's name and identity. She reassured him that "Celestia" was indeed her real name. Makoto recalled reading a thread online that described her as a top gambler and an expert of deception, so he remained suspicious. Shortly thereafter, the students were forced to participate in the mutual killing game. The first motive to murder were DVDs with a video from Monokuma that implied their loved ones were in danger. Celestia's video showed her most beloved relative was her cat, Grand Bois Chéri Ludenberg. Her apparent willingness to throw out her pride and beg for her life when threatened by Robo Justice seemed intended to invoke this by emphasizing the supposed killer's threat-level. All it really did was tip some players off that she was likely lying (which gets lampshaded in Danganronpa Abridged Thing). During the investigation in the second chapter, she very casually says it was Chihiro's own fault for getting killed just because he broke her self-imposed night time rule.
