About this deal

I understand that the 600D is an entry level camera, and most people wouldn’t consider using it for professional use, but I’ve done professional corporate headshots with a Nikon D3200. At the end of the session, I’d rush to my laptop, and copy the files off the SD card, just in case. No matter whether you’re a beginner or a pro, shooting in RAW is one of the best things you can do for your photography. Not only do you capture more detail this way, but you also have more leeway when it comes to adjusting exposure in post production.

Canon EF-S lens mount, a subset of the EF mount designed for cameras with APS-C sensors such as the 600D Once again the EOS 600D doesn't officially replace the 550D, but instead slips comfortably into the range between it and the more enthusiast-orientated 60D. The two cameras look near-identical from the front - the 600D is just a fraction taller and wider, due mainly to the swivel-and-tilt screen, and it's a fraction heavier too (by about 40g / 1.4 oz). It's also now got a more obvious grip area for your left hand below the model badge.

Feel and build quality: Rubberised grips for thumb, right hand and left hand, metal mode dial (compared to the plastic dial on the 1100D). Very solid feeling camera with a large amount of rubberised hand grips makes this a re-assuringly solid feeling camera to use. Ease of use: The live view button stands out from the rest of the buttons, the flash button is next to the flash where you would expect it, which is all good. However the ISObutton is next to the command dial making it difficult to scroll through the ISOsettings whilst trying to simultaneously hold down the ISObutton and scroll the wheel at the same time. Shutter release slightly further forward than other SLRs, doesn't fall to hand instantly and can take a little while to get used to (especially noticeable when you ask someone to take a photo for you). Canon EOS 600D - The Canon Zoom Lens EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 ISIIis an updated version of the earlier IS lens, however the changes appear to be cosmetic only. The design of the camera is very good, with ample rubberised areas, and a large hand grip. However Ifound some of the button locations slightly awkward, particularly the ISObutton, although the rest were good. The Canon menus are easy to use and logically laid out as you would expect with a Canon camera. The battery life was better than expected, although there is little warning about when the battery is finally going to give up on you. Seeking the best printer for your business? This camera might have been ok for video when it was first released, as autofocus was generally pretty bad across the board, but if your videos will be judged by modern standards, you’ll probably be wishing for better AF. One reviewer concluded that this feature takes a 1920×1080 crop from the middle of the sensor frame for the "3×" zoom, but was unable to confirm this with Canon. [2] This feature has not been included in any subsequent models of the Rebel line, or in the EOS M mirrorless camera (although in that model, it can be implemented with Magic Lantern open source software), but returned with the 2013 release of the EOS 70D.Canon EOS 600D top view - showing the command dial, DISP, ISO buttons, mode dial, on-off switch, flash hot-shoe, and strap loops. Battery life: The camera's battery life is rated at 440 shots according to CIPA standards. Itook over 580 shots, surpassing the expected battery life, however the camera gives very little warning about the remaining battery life, and as soon as the battery is nearly empty, a red battery warning will appear and you will then only be able to take another two or three shots. Lens: We tested the camera with the IS kit lens, the Canon Zoom Lens EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS II, with built in optical image stabilisation. The lens has AF-MF and Stabilizer ON/OFF switches on the side, a large rubberised zoom grip, and mechanical focusing ring at the front. If you’re using an external mic to record the interview, which you should be doing, this may not be an issue, depending on the acoustic properties of the space you’re filming in, but if not, you might be better off using manual focus. What hasn't changed at all, though, is the camera's core specification, making the 600D the first camera in the line that hasn't gained a higher resolution sensor or new processor. So Canon's tried-and-trusted 18MP APS-C CMOS sensor is still in place, along with its sensitivity range of ISO 100-6400 (expandable to 12800) and 3.9fps continuous shooting. Likewise the 9-point autofocus and 63 zone metering systems are unchanged. This means that the 600D is unlikely to bring any surprises in terms of image quality.
