About this deal

Step 1: I start by doing a base coat of Leadbelcher all over the main parts of the body that won’t be red. My reds have pretty good coverage, so I can afford to be a bit sloppy here. I also want to get the spots on the head where the mask is broken. The models in the Indomitus box are my first Necrons – I’ve previously thought about doing Necrons but never pulled the trigger on them. I’m kind of glad I waited now because these models are awesome — they wonderfully combine the creepy eldritch horror of the 3rd edition Necron fluff with the character of the Tomb Kings-style 5th edition reboot. I’ve always really liked the red Necrons that one of my college roommates painted, and so I wanted to do something similar in style to his Necrons, albeit with a little more visual flair on the characters. I also wanted to get away from the green energy rods, since the red/green combo can end up looking a little too Christmas-like. Tempestus Scion models are very detailed and subsequently tedious to paint. I don’t advise going beyond “Battle Ready” if you’ll be doing a lot of them, but if you insist…

Now here is the area you can put a little flair and extra colors. For my specialists, I wanted them to feel like part of my army, so I kept largely the same color palette, just adding dashes of other colors into the mix, and changing the locations to make them look special without making them look like they don’t belong. With its bold, bold color and striking visual impact, this paint is a true masterpiece of the Citadel Colours collection. What armies can you paint with Caliban Green? Some people with a good eye (not me) spotted that Caliban Green wasn’t a 1:1 match up with the Dark Angels Green that it replaced. So, what would you buy if you wanted to colour match to your old armies? Lets look at what the internet told me to buy! Vallejo Game Colour – Dark Green 72.028In slavery, Caliban came to view Prospero as an usurper and grew to resent him and his daughter. He sought to rebel against them under a new master, but in the end he remained a faithful servant to his first master, Prospero. This character arc has notable similarities to those of the Dark Angels' Primarch Lion El'Jonson and Luther. I like this guy a lot, but my Necron army never got past the stage of being “fledgling” and was mostly painted two years ago, and I think now i would do them differently. The body is just Army Painter silver spray washed Nuln Oil, the carapace is Naggaroth Night then Xereus Purple highlighted with Genestealer Pink, and the green is Warpstone Glow -> Moot Green. The gold is just Retributor Gold washed Seraphim Sepia, and the brassy bits are Runelord Brass which I think was also washed Sepia.

It’s easier to get a solid edge highlight with the Citadel paint, whereas if I wanted the same level of opacity with the Two Thin Coats paints, I’d need to edge highlight everything (you guessed it) twice. And I don’t want to do that, because that’d take forever…and I’m an extremely lazy painter edge highlighting is hard. Near-flawless colour matches, but not “copycats” of other paints as different consistencies and behaviours Use pure Scale 75 Peridot Alchemy as an edge highlight. For reflex highlights, mix in a little bit of Scale 75 Speed Metal or White Alchemy

Whilst they bear similarities to other ranges – such as we’ve seen above in the comparison to Citadel – Two Thin Coats paints are still very different. They will appeal to both beginners and more experienced painters due to their slightly thinner mixes that do not sacrifice pigmentation strength. They require a little bit more work due to their slightly thinner recipe, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Next stipple the Umber ink wash along the bottom edges of everything previously stippled. Try not to just cover up the Reikland stipple, leave it showing so that there is a transition between the heavier pigmented ink and the cleaner armor. For monopose models where it’s important to keep parts together, but I still want to do clipping and cleaning of plastic in a batch, I tend to flip the bases upside down and keep the parts together in those once they’re cleaned. Ok yeah. That’s powerful. Even thinned, the 1st layer covered well. In other words it’s doing it’s damn job.

Speaking of contrast before, here is my colour list. As you can see I used it a fair bit on the little bits as an experiment and hot damn it saved some time: So, here I am with my first tutorial, Painting Dark Angels. I always loved my Dark Angels paint scheme to be really dark. I like darker schemes in general as these guys are at war, the brighter schemes never really fit-in for me. Mechanicus Standard Grey (a whole nother coat because it is actually quite different from the spray)According to the internet, which is never wrong, ever, this is a match for O.G Dark Angels Green. Until games workshop made finding guides via YouTube and the Citadel colour app easy as hell, Vallejo was my go to choice for paint due to the dropper bottles, cost per ml and the sheer fact that it is very, very nice to paint with.
