About this deal

Dinosaurs have captured the imagination of just about everyone at some point. These prehistoric giants seem like something out of a fairy tale, but the amazing thing is that they actually lived and walked (or stomped or ran) right where we do today. With fossil evidence taking center stage at many museums, it’s no wonder that people can’t get enough of learning about dinosaurs. Older readers ready for more complex chapter books might enjoy the Dinosaur Cove series, the popular Astrosaurs books or Pooja Puri’s super-funny A Dinosaur Ate My Sister.

This rhyming text professes its love for dinosaurs of all shapes, sizes, and habits. We love all the descriptive vocabulary! 3. How Do Dinosaurs … series by Jane Yolen (pre-K–1)Digging up a dinosaur skeleton is an amazing possibility to imagine. Having that skeleton come to life and become your pet dinosaur? Magical. This is one of our favorite new dinosaur books for kids, for sure. 5. How to Catch a Dinosaur by Adam Wallace (pre-K-1)

Dinosaurs: A Visual Encyclopedia byDK Publishing: Experience a visual feast with this encyclopedia that features stunning illustrations and informative content about dinosaurs from different time periods. The two main protagonists are Gideon Mantell, a Sussex-based country doctor who was actually someone who went out looking for these remains as a kind of obsessive hobby, and did a lot of work in finding and describing these animals. His nemesis, if you like, was Richard Owen who went on to become the first director of the Natural History Museum. Owen was a career academic and a brilliant man but didn’t have all the scruples that you may have wanted. They competed very strongly and there were some very nasty incidents on both sides. Owen would rip off Mantell’s ideas, try and poach specimens from collections that Mantell was working with and try to suppress publication of some of Mantell’s work. In return, although Mantell was definitely on the receiving end, he was a vain character and was so obsessive about these animals that his doctor’s practice went to seed, his wife left him (which was very unusual at that time, but he was so obsessed with these things) and his eldest son emigrated to New Zealand to get away from him. So you have these two very irascible characters competing. I like those huge claws that are just exhibited on their own and nothing else has ever been found of that dinosaur. Children in the Early Years love the short rhyming poems in Mad About Dinosaurs– a classic preschool and reception choice that is ideal for young children to join in with. We also highly recommend Julia Donaldson’s charming rhyming story Tyrannosaurus Drip and Never Let a Diplodocus Draw for fun dino-themed storytimes in EYFS.

A Fun Dinosaur Book For Adults

Almost all dinosaur books include interesting facts but the ones for older teens and adults dig deeper into the methodology behind research and paleontology. You can read about what is involved in a dig, what elements of fossils are examined, and how researchers piece together the complex puzzle of the past to determine what life may have been like for the dinosaurs. Nicholas’s favorite dinosaur is a lot more than a toy. It helps him be fearless and strong, just like he imagines the real dinosaurs were. When it gets lost, his dad knows just what he needs. This is a heartwarming story about what it means to be brave. 15. The Dinosaur Expert by Margaret McNamara (K–3) This is the most technical book in my five. It’s the most comprehensive single resource you can go to for information on dinosaurs.
