Top 100 Metal Albums of 2002". Jam!. Archived from the original on August 12, 2004 . Retrieved March 23, 2022. NS: You sound deranged. And I suspect you’re overthinking the thing. All you need to know about “You Give Love a Bad Name” is that it’s as contagious as Ebola. And more dangerous, because people do recover from Ebola. NS: If Iran were to do the same thing we’d nuke ‘em. Bon Jovi literally engineered and then field-tested the perfect musicological weapon of mass destruction. Complete with lethal hooks and designed for maximum dispersal. “Livin’ on a Prayer” is one of the most infectious pop metal tunes of the eighties, the perfect number for weddings, proms, and trying to get your teenage girlfriend into the proper mood for letting you take off her bra. Or so I’m told. I don’t have the disease so I wouldn’t know. In 1986, Bon Jovi said "There's a song called 'Love Is A Social Disease' that Aerosmith were keen to get hold of. It would be ideal for them, but they're not having it, because it's even better for us." [14] Title and artwork [ edit ] Christgau, Robert (September 1, 1987). "Christgau's Consumer Guide". The Village Voice . Retrieved August 17, 2020– via robertchristgau.com.

That said, I never–and I know I sound just like those people on TV commercials talking about horrible contractable diseases–thought it could strike me. I was certain I possessed the necessary modicum of native intelligence and impeccable musical taste to serve as a prophylaxis against Bon Jovi. I was sure it only afflicted those who in some way “deserved it.” Who can sit still while listening to Livin' on a Prayer? Or You Give Love a Bad Name? If you can, than you care more about sales than song-writing. There might be Desmond Child's mostly hated song-writing influence, but it works on every level and I'm sold to that. "Inside The Business Of Bon Jovi With Bryan Reesman". Forbes . Retrieved March 11, 2017.In 2005, Slippery When Wet was re-issued as a DualDisc. The CD side contains a newly remastered version. The DVD side contains the same album in its original stereo mix, a slightly expanded 5.1 surround sound version, and all 5 music videos. The expanded album includes additional elements within many of the songs, in some cases increasing their runtime. The DualDisc was released on September 20, 2005, the same release date as Have a Nice Day. Me: You know how in “You Give Love a Bad Name” Jon Bon Jovi sings “shot to the heart and you’re to blame”? Well what I want to know is if he got shot in the heart how come he’s still singing? Wouldn’t that make him a zombie? NS: You can’t fight Big Radio. Or Big Vinyl. So we’re doing what we can. Conducting tests with laboratory rats to see if we can come up with an answer, a cure, some kind of hope we can extend to the millions of people out there who hate themselves for singing along with “Wanted Dead or Alive” and “You Give Love a Bad Name.” In the UK, Slippery When Wet received a 3× Platinum certification by the BPI. The album also achieved Diamond status in Canada, and 6× Platinum status in Australia. The album peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, making it Bon Jovi's first number-one album in the United States. The album spent 38 weeks inside the Top 5 of Billboard 200, including 8 weeks at No. 1. It is the best-selling album of 1987 in the United States, and eventually reached Diamond certification by the RIAA and current sales stand at 12 million copies, making it the 48th best-selling album in the United States.

You don't need to be genius to be outstanding. I know it sounds confusing, it was my purpose to make it so. This is a band so capable of producing hits that they don't need any excessive guitar virtuoso in the group (and at this point we didn't really know what treasure do they have in the person of Richie Sambora), nor any flashy element, no he-can-sing-the-attic-and-basement vocalist (Jon was a great singer, though). There are only catchy songs, maybe some of the melodies are a little sugary to be of really lasting value, but I like most of them. Slaughter, Matthew (June 30, 2014). a b Kent, David (1993). Australian Chart Book 1970–1992. St Ives, NSW: Australian Chart Book. ISBN 0-646-11917-6. Top 20 Hair Metal Albums of All Time: The Complete List". LA Weekly. December 9, 2011 . Retrieved February 26, 2021. As for side two, with the exception of “Raise Your Hands” (very Van Halenesque) and “Wild in the Streets” (very sub-Spingsteenesque) it’s a disappointing cesspool of power ballads and Journey-Survivor school claptrap, and helps allay suspicions that Jon Bon Jovi is some kind of musical idiot savant. If side two were to saddle up a horse in El Paso, Texas and disappear into Mexico like Ambrose Bierce, nobody would ever report its disappearance to the police.Selected items are only available for delivery via the Royal Mail 48® service and other items are available for delivery using this service for a charge. I’ve always considered Bon Jovi a disease–like kuru, say, only a helluva lot scarier. To contract kuru you have to live in New Guinea and eat contaminated human brains. You can contract Bon Jovi by turning on your car radio.
