About this deal

It was really, really bland. I even left the tea bag in for longer to try and squeeze some flavour out which made it darker but didn't improve the taste. But there's nothing worse than popping round your mates for a cuppa only to find they don't keep your favourite brand of tea in. One might be tempted to carry an emergency brew kit in their bag for times when your loyal brand simply isn't on the menu. We certainly wouldn't judge.

The box was massive which gave me high hopes, but it turned out to be quantity over quality here. The only time I'd say yes to this sad brew would be at a footie game or camping, just to warm up my hands. For me this was my previous 'go to' choice when it came to tea, though I have to admit it wasn't quite as flavoursome and punchy as the PG tips and Tesco's bags. Overall, while each of the teas on offer had their good points and bad, for me due to the taste and cost my favourite was the Tesco Original which was closely followed by PG tips and Tetley. As well as the taste being strong, it was also gentle. Its punch growing over time rather than hitting you slap-bang in the face.I was really pleasantly surprised by this one, it had a good taste of tea and didn't need too much brew time unlike some of the others. The pyramid-shaped bag allows room for the tea to breathe and brew; swirling around the water and squeezing all of its tea-y goodness out. I could happily sit and drink Yorkshire Tea all day if I had to, and I certainly wouldn’t turn my nose up if someone offered me a cup. She’s no longer with us, dying five years ago on Christmas Eve, but the only thing she did leave me was my undying love for tea. Although the colour wasn’t as bold as Yorkshire’s, I forgave it as I knew it wouldn’t greatly impact the taste.

The more I tasted, the blander the tea became, as if it was actually losing flavour the more I drank - which I didn’t even know was possible. This was the worst cuppa of the lot. I was questioning if there was actually any tea in the tea bag and the only thing giving it away was that it had a brown tint to the water. PG’s flavour is strong and well-rounded, much like Yorkshire, but I think Yorkshire might have pipped it to the post in terms of strength on this occasion. The taste continued to worsen, so much so it ended up tasting like dishwater, which was not what I expected. I can wholeheartedly agree with Sean Bean’s statement from the tea’s advert: “In Yorkshire we make proper brews.” Tesco's bags were the only ones that weren't foiled for freshness, but this didn't negatively impact the taste. It didn't have much of that lovely tea smell, but it was still a hearty cup and I would happily try again! Prolific tea drinkers will argue until they're blue in the face that the brand that they drink is the best, and that's exactly what some of our writers have been doing this week. Here are our arguments for which tea brand is the best: PG Tips Extra Strong It’s probably the only way my gran convinced my parents it was acceptable to drink tea at such a young age.
