About this deal

Everyone having a system overnight with ability to summon monsters is an apocalyptic event in itself even if it doesn't immeditaly destroy the world, the initial panic / destruction/ government reaction in unreal (as in doesnt really happen) and makes me question the reality of this world. Any sort of functional government would have massive research teams (hundreds of people) working on every facet of system exploration within hours with experts from every field. So, MC trying to influence/ lead the world using a 6 person team from a university is utterly ridiculous, and shows limited world view.

Very minor SPOILERS below to illustrate my point, but again nothing really happens so it is hard to spoil anything: Some devotees of the movie complain that the former scene shouldn’t be in any cut, because the shots of Martin Sheen’s Willard grinning like a frat boy as he engages in shenanigans with the other members of the PT boat crew “humanizes” the character too much. You could just as convincingly argue that it rounds the character out, but my main objection to it is that it just dangles a plot point without any interest in its resolution—something even the first cut of the movie did a smidge too often.Rinse and repeat for the entire book. It made for an incredibly dry read. All the action was summed up after the fact except for a very small number of fights. And those were brief as hell. Research sketches for the bunnies by Dean Tavoularis. The design on the right can be seen in the movie. Basically, MC is the last hope of humanity and absolutely squanders it. He doesn't make himself strong enough to save an entire world. He doesn't train a group of trusted fighters. He doesn't release info to the public so they can safely level and defend themselves.

Last night, whatever opposition this film once faced was a distant memory, as Coppola dispensed wisdom from the right side of posterity. “If you want to make art,” he said, “you have to be comfortable with risk, and taking a chance that you know best.” Soderbergh put it even more succinctly: “I don’t know what to say, other than that you gambled and you won.” Coppola beamed at the instant round of applause, surrounded by irrefutable evidence that he had made the right decisions, even if they seemed crazy at the time. They say textbooks are written by the victors, and because he just so happened to be a genius with talent too great to be denied, Coppola now gets the privilege of setting his own legacy. His parting words, by no coincidence, sounded like they came from a god. Levy, Emanuel (May 18, 2001). "Apocalypse Now Redux". Screen International . Retrieved November 16, 2021. The direction is excellent, the music is perfectly integrated into the film and matches the tone of the film.

There is some low grade scientific method, a whole lot fairly "right" guesses, and a great deal of effort not to make things worse in a world where dangerous spell ingredients are junk drawer items. He may have been one of the most well-regarded artists in his field, but Coppola was still an underdog, up against the odds from start to finish. For an audience hanging on his every word, he recalled mangling his Oscar statuettes in a fit of anguish (his mother later got the Academy to replace them), and regaling his despairing crew with a riff on a classic show tune from Damn Yankees. “I went to them, and I said, ‘A good screenplay, we haven’t got. A good movie, we haven’t got. A good director, we haven’t got. What’ve we got? We’ve got heart!’” Does he carefully craft the perfect build? Not really. He gives up a chance at a Legendary class by rushing to level 10, supposedly so he can better deal with some impending calamity... which is never mentioned again in the book -_-

A good ways of dealing with the character sheet I've read in a different book I cannot remember the name of - The strongest element of this story for me was the game mechanics. Rather than have monsters and dungeons randomly spawning everywhere, monsters can only come into the world when they are summoned by a human. The System basically just hands everyone a summoning recipe guide and dangles the promise of rewards. Human nature does the rest with the inevitable overreaching that leads to disaster. I thought it was a great direction for the story and the system mechanics are revealed in-depth as the MC and his research group conduct experiments. Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse (with audio commentary by Francis and Eleanor Coppola – HD – 96:00) What I like about this one, despite its problems, is the willingness to work on a global scale rather than a regional or national one. A scene where a miniature toy boat passes the Navy PBR. Lance tries to grab it out of the water. The Chief yells at him to leave it alone claiming it's a booby trap. To prove it the Chief fires some shots at it to which it explodes.

More info

When Lance is reading his letters on the boat, he suddenly stops to machine gun a water buffalo on the shore. The Chief yells at him to stop. Examples include : Publishing a "what can go wrong with summoning." flyer under a pseudonym while explicitly leaving out information that he shouldn't have access to as a non-time travelers. Taking a job as an assistant on a research team where he can subtly leak important information drip by drip. Working with one specific police dept in one specific college town (from time to time) presumably with the hope that other police depts will copy his plan of finding a sugar daddy to lavish them with rare materials and power level their people? Apocalypse Now is an interesting film, not because it is supposedly an anti-war film, but because it is surreal and shows an interesting journey into madness. The scene where Willard meets Kurtz in his bed chamber contains more dialogue....as Kurtz makes it clear that he knows why Willard is there.

I haven't seem MC make use of any future knowledge other than general awareness of how system works and fight skills. Not using any dungeons or anything that suggests decade of experience in general ... no advanced knowlege or clever usage ... just summon one monster an hour like every other schmuk. The original timeline had a decade worth of time .. and you tell me he doesn't know shit about getting a OP build? The world building is good, maybe not top notch, but better than average for a end of the world time slip genera novel. Plots good, but also fairly consequence free at this point. There are no real stakes however despite near constant reminders that seven billion arguably untrustworthy humans have just been handed massive corrupting amounts of power. This is the first time the original negative has been scanned, since all previous transfers have been made from an IP. Over 11 months, over 2,700 hours was spent cleaning and restoring the film’s 300,173 frames. The 4K scan, combined with Dolby’s HDR processing (Dolby Vision), has led to a level of depth and detail in Vittorio Storaro’s cinematography that audiences couldn’t see before. There is no audio dubbing in this version. All the audio is from the sound recorded during the actual filming. Much of Robert Duvall's dialogue is unitelligable due to the sound of the helicopters in his scenes. This is essentially a Blu-ray version of Disc One, with the Final Cut version of the film in 1080p HD, the same English Dolby Atmos and English 2.0 Dolby Digital audio, and the same subtitle options. Here’s the key thing to note: Yes, this Blu-ray IS mastered from the new 4K OCN scan. This disc also has one extra: In this version. The first time Kurtz appears is the scene where a mud caked Willard is tied up (seated) to a pole in the rain. Kurtz appears with camouflage face paint, Willard asks...."Why he is being mistreated?" and tries to bluff his way past Kurtz by telling him that he had just completed a secret mission in Cambodia, and only stopped for supplies. Kurtz says nothing to him, but plants Chef's head in his lap. (Only a portion of this scene was in the original version).
