About this deal

Him", as all Alexa fans know, is Alex Turner, lead singer of Arctic Monkeys and Chung's boyfriend for four years until their split in 2011. I really, really wanted to like this book. I enjoy fashion, and I enjoy Alexa Chung. I mean, I think she's funny, she's good at what she does (i.e.: being there when they need cool people to be there, wearing clothes and just talking about whatever.) However, and even though I didn't have any high expectations when buying the book (yes, I BOUGHT it), I still expected something totally different from this. Chung joined Queer Eye's Tan France as co-host of the Netflix original fashion competition show Next In Fashion, which debuted on 29 January 2020. [49] In June 2020, Netflix announced it was cancelling the show after one season. [50] Writing and other ventures [ edit ]

You could never make this today, people would say it’s racist. I’m kinda joking it’s not that serious but her favorite influences are Woody Allen movies, The Talking Heads, Wes Anderson, aforementioned Lolita, Brigette Bardot, Anna Karina, and Twiggy. This is such a relic. Wally, Maxine (24 June 2015). "Alexa Chung hosts another Longchamp campaign in New York". WWD. Archived from the original on 30 September 2015 . Retrieved 29 September 2015. Fearnley isn’t sure how else to describe the appeal other than an aspirational aura, but commends how Chung “made it a job to be a muse for the masses.” In contrast to the male gaze, Fearnley argues that she was a “celebrity designed for women.” Sometimes, she wonders if Chung is responsible for the “millennial corporate casual” trend before it got co-opted by the Girlboss movement. Fearnley adds, “She made herself into capital and that's powerful.” In December 2010, Bryan Ferry, on behalf of the British Fashion Council, presented Chung with the British Style Award which "recognises an individual who embodies the spirit of British fashion and is an international ambassador for the UK as a leading creative hub for fashion" at a ceremony at the Savoy Theatre in London. [29] At the British Fashion Awards of 2011, 2012 and 2013, Chung won the British Style Award, for which the public voted. [30] In 2015, Chung collaborated with AG Jeans on two collections. Since 2020, Martha Fearnley and Kaitlin Eleanor Gleason have been dissecting the “cultural, psychological, and political contributions” of it girls throughout history on their podcast IT GIRL THEORY. The only reason that they haven’t dedicated an episode to Chung is because there’s nothing to prove—everyone is already in agreement that she qualifies. “She's been called an It girl the most number of times in history; everyone is obsessed with referring to her as an It girl,” says Gleason. “We really did project a lot onto her in terms of [her being] the archetype of the interesting woman of Tumblr.” a b Day, Elizabeth (2 October 2010). In February 2010, she appeared on the magazine's cover for the first time and during the same month, whilst the March issue was on sale, documented her daily fashion and style choices in the VOGUE.COM feature Today I'm Wearing. June 2010 saw her became the face of Lacoste's latest fragrance The Joy of Pink. She was the first female celebrity to feature in a campaign for the French brand. Just so you don't repeat Lacoste. Interview done, we go inside to inspect the bag Chung will take to tonight's party. It's Perspex and in the shape of a giant Chanel No 5 bottle. "It's brilliant!" Chung gasps.

Ultimately, It comes across like some stoned fashion student's end-of-term mood board, interspersed with frissons of abstract Stateside cool, with Chung affecting to exist in little urban "moments", of isolated bliss, pain and wisdom, in the style of, say, Miranda July or Greta Gerwig. It covers everything from Alexa Chung's thoughts on life, love and music to her favourite looks and how to decide what to wear in the morning. There’s also talk of first favorites— varying from clothes to anthems to movies… and, of course, featuring gorgeous pictures and illustrations. The images honesty made this book for me.Savannah Sicurella, a writer based in Atlanta, Georgia, fondly remembers begging her parents to buy her a signed copy of It for her 14th birthday. From Sicurella’s point of view, Chung had this effortless elusiveness, or what she describes as “that very high pinnacle of unattainable coolness.” Georgie Okell Joins 'Fuse News,' Alexa Chung Exits – News – Fuse". Kilkelly, Daniel (9 July 2007). "Monkeys Star Flirts With 'Popworld' Host". Digital Spy. Archived from the original on 6 October 2014 . Retrieved 18 July 2014. Chung wrote a monthly column for British women's magazine Company from October 2007 to June 2008. She then wrote a weekly newspaper column for Britain's The Independent from November 2008 to June 2009, titled "Girl About Town" and later "New York Doll." In June 2009, she was made a contributing editor of British Vogue. She has interviewed designers such as Karl Lagerfeld and Christopher Kane for the publication, and wrote a cover story about Kate Upton. [31] Chung's first book, It, was released on 5 September 2013. Chung laughs while talking about the ridiculousness of a photoshoot she had in December and how she compartmentalizes the many hats that she wears in real time. “They still don't really want all of it,” she grins. “Different people want different bits, you can't have all the things.” Longtime fans can rest assured that Chung isn’t plotting a TikTok takeover anytime soon, but she does admire how today’s content creators can be “masterful within something that's seen as common.” (She especially likes the idea of “taking something that's meant to be a flippant medium and try to make it look really high class,” like her YouTube channel.) This is such an interesting cultural object lol, I remember when it came out and it was a bit of a hot item (I wasn't interested because I figured that it would probably not be relatable to me, or that it would be vapid). I read it on a whim when the curiosity finally hit me in 2023 after I saw someone mention it, and I thought, yeah ok, I guess I'm nostalgic about something that's going on here. I probably made this sound way worse than it actually is, but the fact is, it just isn't great. I liked some of it, the pictures were nice, and Alexa is witty and was able to keep your attention, but keep it on what? There's no plot or conducting element throughout the whole book. The thing that seems to be 'hey, Alexa Chung wrote this bunch of anecdotes or just really some stuff that isn't relevant to you so go read it and pay for it.'
