Grand Romantic Gesture: The Prince does this twice while wooing Princess Tulip — first with an elaborate Christmas display in the ballroom, second with a path of rose petals that lead into the royal rose garden. He sabotages himself the first time by expressing disgust with her when she runs into his arms before making herself presentable for the occasion. The second time is successful enough to evoke a Hope Spot, but that ultimately comes to nothing; both times, the fact that he doesn't actually love her gets in the way. He does come to care about Belle, however, and this contributes to his gesture of "giving her" the castle library succeeding wonderfully. Base on Wheels: The Odd Sisters' house has been in many different locations, owing to its ability to be flown through the air. Hades (as in the Hades from Hercules) is used instead of Hell, regardless of the character's presumed religious beliefs. Characters get damned "to Hades". "Hades" is also used in the place of Hell-related curses, like "damn". Thus we get phrases like "[her] Hades-may-care attitude".

Driven to Suicide: The Odd Sisters give her a choice: run into the woods and be safe or go up the cliff and die. The queen chooses death. Gothel decides to find a way to save her sisters but the only one that she was to make them drink the blood of their mother, although they flatly refuse. As Gothel is searching through her mother's books, reading in the forest, she is interrupted by three odd triplets witches: The Odd Sisters Love at First Sight: Deconstructed, at least in the Odd Sisters' minds. Rapunzel's poor upbringing led to her latching onto the first man she sees. The sisters then help Gothel settle into a new home, with a new housekeeper named Ms. Tiddlebottom who is oblivious to Gothel’s past and what she plans to do. After getting settled, Gothel never sees the sisters again for many years, as they have become preoccupied with more pressing matters involving Circe. When Gothel begins losing faith, she catches them trying to steal the last remaining rapunzel flower so they can use it heal Maleficent, to which Gothel refuses and begins to hoard the flower for herself. Gothel sees the odd sisters again on Rapunzel's eighth birthday, when they try to resurrect Hazel and Primrose, using the magic in Rapunzel‘s hair, only to be interrupted by Ms. Tiddlebottom. Half-Human Hybrid: When Ursula took revenge on the village of Ipswitch over her father's death, she turned its residents into these. Triton subsequently used the incident to discredit her and take the throne of ruler of the sea, even though he harbored Fantastic Racism against humans.

Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Princess Tulip's hair is stated to be blonde and she's a nice girl inside out — not that it helps her much. My Beloved Smother: She's rarely present in her kids' lives, but her presence is smothering and ominous to them nevertheless.Redemption Equals Affliction: The Odd Sisters in the third book, who are rendered comatose after helping defeat Ursula.

The sisters appear in the fifth book having met their match in Mother Gothel, with whom they have a strained relationship with. Floral Theme Naming: Rapunzel is named after the rapunzel flower that her mother ate prior to her birth. However, she's named this because Gothel sees Rapunzel as simply the flower. She doesn't care about Rapunzel as a person. Really 700 Years Old: Gothel comes from a long line of Queens of the Dead. They live as long as they want and only die when they feel they're ready to "enter the mists" (presumably referring to Hades' underworld). Gothel herself is several centuries old when she dies. The Lost Lenore: To Queen Grimhilde. His death leads to her spiraling into a depression and leaves her open to emotional manipulation. Princesses Prefer Pink: Princess Tulip seems to think her favorite color is pink, especially in clothing.Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: Jacob wonders if Manea's prophecy about three sisters ruining the Dead Woods wasn't a self-fulfilling prophecy. I’d like to thank these brave women for showing up and allowing me the privilege of painting them so that they can tell their stories.
