About this deal

The High5 recovery drink was the only other protein powder on test to offer the same ~3:1 carbs to protein ratio. It’s the right balance for getting sufficient protein in for rebuilding your muscles, without having to take on an excessive amount of carbs. SIS Rego Rapid Recovery is a supplement powder from Science In Sport that is designed to provide exactly what it’s named to, rapid recovery. How, you ask? And does it really speed up and promote better recovery like it claims to? That’s what we’ll find out in this SIS Rego Rapid Recovery review. Our SiS REGO Rapid Recovery Powder is a complete recovery food supplement that delivers high carbohydrate and protein, as well as electrolytes and vitamins and minerals in a convenient drink for immediately after exercise.

Along with carbs and protein, recovery powders will also often contain electrolytes to replace those lost in sweat in long workouts, as well as a mix of vitamins and minerals designed to support the body’s ability to handle a high training load. According to McGregor, a recovery drink is ideal if you haven't got time to sit down for a meal. 'So if you’re coming in [from training] and you’re going to have breakfast or lunch within half an hour, it's not a problem,' she says.

Torq’s recovery drink is very different to most on this list, in that it contains a huge amount of carbs. The price per serving is high, but the recovery drink you get is near enough a meal replacement which – for people having just finished a race or short on time – might actually be ideal. All applicable customs and import duties and any other charges are the responsibility of the customer.

To ensure athletes receive a well-rounded nutritional boost, this product also contains a blend of essential vitamins and minerals. These micronutrients play crucial roles in various physiological processes, such as energy metabolism, immune function, and muscle function. By providing these essential nutrients, REGO Rapid Recovery+ aids in overall recovery and helps maintain optimal health for athletes. Carbs wise, you should be consuming in total (from drink and additional food) between 60-100 grams of carbohydrate, depending on the duration of the training, the intensity, and the training you have in the following days.

Given that actually testing recovery effects is a far more complex process than just having different recovery drinks – sleep, stress factors and temperature to name but a few, as well as the need for a large cohort of willing volunteers – I tested these drinks on three main metrics in terms of subjective measures: Taste, how well they mixed and the resulting texture, and how much they contributed to satisfying hunger/need for something after a workout. When we exercise – especially at high intensity or after 90 minutes – unless we take on additional carbohydrate fuelling during the ride, we will deplete our muscle glycogen stores. Replenishing these stores ensures that we are able to complete strenuous training the next day, without our performance being impaired. Some studies have shown that vegan protein sources are more beneficial for health and also your gut microbiome. But these are often found to be more complex issues than just the type of protein. A diet rich in vegetables and fibre will be beneficial for gut health because of the presence of those, not necessarily the source of the protein. As we all know, the workout part is only the beginning, and once you’ve “torn it down,” it’s then time to rebuild it. This means giving your muscles and energy production what they need to return to full strength ASAP so that you can start the process all over again.

High quality blend of carbohydrate (22g), protein (20g) and electrolytes with vitamins and minerals Whey protein is found in cow’s milk. Whey is created from the separation of milk and is presented as a powder. This process is used to produce cheese, known as the curding process. Whey protein carries out the functions that proteins perform in the body by providing essential amino acids. Carbohydrate is the main muscle fuel for our body during moderate to high-intensity exercise. During training and competition, our bodies can absorb around 60-90g of carbohydrate per hour, meaning that demand will outstrip the supply of energy. This shortfall is met by using your glycogen stores, which must be replenished post exercise so you are able to perform well in your next session. High quality blend of carbohydrate (38g), protein (24g) and electrolytes with vitamins and mineralsCarbohydrate availability is very important for fuelling endurance sports and is the body’s main fuel. Carbohydrate is predominantly stored as glycogen in both the liver (approximately 100 g) and muscle (approximately 400 g) and about 5 g circulating in the blood stream as glucose. The body can absorb about approximately 90g of carbohydrate per hour. A diet rich in carbohydrate increases both endurance and intermittent high-intensity performance. Rapid replenishment of glycogen stores will prepare athletes for training and their next session. Fuelling for the work required is vital for performance.

You need to be careful because a lot of recovery drinks are quite low in carbs,' she warns. 'If they say they’re sugar free, there’s no point having them.' Rehydration and Electrolyte Replenishment: Electrolytes are crucial for maintaining proper hydration and supporting efficient muscle function. REGO Rapid Recovery Powder includes essential electrolytes to replenish those lost through sweat, enhancing your body's ability to absorb water and aiding in the rehydration process. Hearris, M. A., Hammond, K. M., Fell, J. M., & Morton, J. P. (2018). Regulation of Muscle Glycogen Metabolism during Exercise: Implications for Endurance Performance and Training Adaptations. Nutrients, 10(3), 298.Add 50g (approx. 3 full scoops – scoop included) to 500ml of water in a shaker or bottle and mix well, ensuring the lid is firmly closed. Protein-wise, whey protein has been found to be faster acting than casein, and animal proteins are often more complete (all the essential amino acids) than many vegan proteins, as well as being more bioavailable. This is why we’ve grouped the vegan ones separately. The drink mixed very well and left us feeling full, ready for a proper meal later on. However, there was a strange artificially sweet taste – although there are apparently no artificial sweeteners present. The formula is further enriched with BCAAs, including 4g of Leucine, a key amino acid known for its role in stimulating muscle protein synthesis. BCAAs are essential for promoting muscle recovery, reducing muscle damage, and supporting optimal immune and gut function. Additionally, 5g of L-Glutamine is included in REGO Rapid Recovery+ to further enhance recovery and support immune system health. There’s a wide range of flavours to keep the taste buds tantalised, including strawberry cheesecake, turmeric latte and ruby chocolate. My favorite is the (admittedly rather traditional) banana, though I can also vouch for the white chocolate raspberry and caramel biscuit – which is astonishingly caramel-biscuity!
