The first few chapters was slow for me. It arrived to chapter 16 and it was getting interesting and then boom the story followed a sine wave from that chapter. But this sine wave has small positive amplitudes and that's not a good news. Also there was the obligatory time jumping, we presume from a creative writing course and the latter conversations use the term "lambie" too often for my liking.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sohn says the film's seven-year development period with Elemental is closely tied to his relationship with his family, when the idea first started, following the release of The Good Dinosaur. He revealed that Ember was born in Element City, but grew up in a fire town, since the neighborhoods are split up.
