The first trip with the poncho went just like any other ride. The only difference is it took a little getting used to working the brakes and gear shifts with the poncho straps. Ponchos and capes are equipped with an extra long tail. This means you can either sit on the fabric to keep your saddle dry, or use the additional length to cover your seat entirely. These garments provide you with full cycling coverage from your head to your thighs, you can even get longer ones that cover your handlebars too! Pier, on the other hand, rarely bothers to wear the hood part of his rain cape. So why does he like the Cleverhood better? Because it’s shorter (the one-size People’s Poncho hangs longer than he’d like) and lighter (it takes up less space when traveling). I only buy things I really need and have the criteria that they must be multi-functional and long-lasting. I have so far found that The People’s Poncho fits the bill.

The issue is when you’re going fast or the winds are gusty. The magnetic strips will come undone, and your cape will blow with the wind. Yeah, OK, you might look a bit like Quasimodo, but at least you’ll be a dry and warm Quasimodo. Besides, you don’t want to blend into the crowds when you have such a cool poncho to show off, do you? It is important to remember that if you plan on using this poncho while cycling you need to have fenders on your bike. Without fenders you’ll have water spraying and coming off the tires which will get your shoes and pants wet.
