About this deal

If One of Us Is Lying was a television series, I would binge-watch it wholeheartedly. It's been a while since I've gotten so into a book I've devoured the majority of it in one sitting when I haven't been on a plane. This hooked me completely, and I'm surprised how much I liked it. Read the parenting guide below to find out why One of us is lying is rated 15 and up. One of us is lying Parents Guide Some sexual content

This is apparently a sequel but it was more like a spin-off. Yes we get little cameos of the previous characters (which I adored) but the plot revolves around a set of different characters and I feel like you can read it as a standalone. Now, there is a copycat but they mean business. And their weapon of choice is truth or dare. Either you take a dare or a truth is revealed. Phoebe is the first target and when she doesn’t take the dare, her deepest, darkest secret is revealed.Next comes Maeve, who skips the dare. By the time it comes to Knox, things are starting to become dangerous. Finally there is Nate....the sultry badboy drug dealer with attachment issues that ends up being sweeter than Winnie the Pooh in honey....yup you better believe it....I'm not lying This is a review I’ve been struggling to write for a few days now and I hope I’ve done it justice. There just aren’t words to describe how completely readable this book really is. McManus did such a fabulous job of making me just as interested in the individual secrets and side stories of the “Murder Club” as I was in the central mystery surrounding Simon’s death. The author had me convinced that this couldn’t possibly be her debut novel, and if this is what she has published first, I can only imagine the treats we will receive in written form from her down the road. I’m a committed fan now and I can’t wait to see what she publishes next. Highly recommended to teens, sure, but I think loads of adults are going to enjoy this one as well. There’s something really special and unique to this story that defies the boundaries of age gaps and will have me remembering it for months to come. I don't read too many contemporaries but gosh-dang was I glued to this plot - the way the clues were revealed slowly and steadily. It was thrilling.

One of Us Is Lying is rated 15 and up. As per the rating given to the book One of us is lying, it is allowed to be read with adults which means you can read it in the presence of an adult, and adult presence is necessary as it may contain material that parents may find inappropriate for their children. Another thing that made me happy was to see more of the Bayview Four and how they did after all the events that happened in the first book. It was so wholesome to see where they are standing now and that despite everything that happened they were all doing good and leading a happy life. =) Also Bronwyn and Nate!!! AHHHH! Gosh! I was so worried about them because I really thought they would break up for good but then Maeve had that really important conversation with Nate and I just loved Nate’s answer. Well, actually I love Nate but yeah his answer was amazing!!! ”Listen, Maeve. You don’t have to worry about Bronwyn and me. We’re endgame.” Yes, yes they are!! <333 I kinda wish I would have reread the first book before this one though, because I couldn’t really remember Luis and had a tough time to place him in the events of “One of Us Is Lying”. But that’s just personal preference and doesn’t take away any of the enjoyment. ;-) I was absolutely addicted. I couldn’t put it down until I found out the answer. Plus there are so many tropes that get walked all over. My personal favourite THE GIRL WITH GLASSES GETS THE HOT GUY! This literally never happens in books or films so thank you Karen McManus for including this and not making her take them off ‘to be prettier’ To be honest, I don’t even have a clue what it is about. I only know there’s supposed to be a murder and some sort of “Breakfast Club”? XD I really really don't want to say goodbye to Bayview and I hope we might get another spin-off. *fingers crossed*The main romance is fairly cute. Incredibly trope-y "goody-two-shoes smart girl falls for the brooding bad boy!" stuff, but, I mean, their interactions are fine, and I was rooting for them by the end of the book, which is a big plus. I would say I was more attached to the budding relationship between them than I was to any of the individual characters in this story. And then one day an anonymous text appears on students’ phones, initiating a game of truth or dare. A student will be chosen, they’ll have a fixed amount of time to decide between truth or dare, and if they fail to answer the question or complete the dare, a painful truth will be revealed about them—to the entire school. Some students want to report this to the principal immediately, but others worry that might lead to everyone's phones getting confiscated again. One of Us Is Lying is a young adult, mystery novel. It is written by American author Karen M. McManus. Karen M. McManus is an American author of young adult fiction. This novel is the first novel of Karen M. Before detention is over for the day, Simon is dead, and apparently, it wasn't an accident. It's not long before investigators discover that the next day, Simon was planning to publish items about Cooper, Bronwyn, Addy, and Nate—items which could potentially destroy all of their lives. Suddenly the four of them are the suspects in Simon's murder, and are pariahs among their fellow students, most of whom hated Simon until he died, then turned him into a tragic figure.

Adelaide "Addy" Prentiss: One of the four point-of-view characters; the ' princess'. Is one of the popular students at the school. She is besotted with her boyfriend, Jake, but her secret is that she cheated on him with TJ, another boy within their friendship group. She eventually confesses to Jake, who breaks up with her. She is comforted by her older sister, Ashton, who helps her through the break-up and with her self-discovery.

I really dunno how long “One of Us is Lying” was already on my list but it feels like it’s been on my TBR forever. *lol* McManus definitely has a talent for creating drama and angst, and that makes for a twisty and fascinating book. I wouldn’t read this one before One of Us is Lying, because while it focuses on a different group of students, the old group is peripherally involved, and many things from the first story are mentioned throughout this book. And the mystery, where is it? I felt like it was too obvious. There was absolutely no subtlety. When I read a mystery book, I want the plot twist to actually be a twist. Is that too much to ask for?Simon Kelleher’s gossip app reports on sex tapes, pregnancy scares and cheating scandals about Bayview High students. One of Simon’s posts featured a girl, Leah, who slept with a freshman. She was harassed on social media and tried to commit suicide by slitting her wrist. He wrote another post about a boy, Aiden, who secretly dressed in women’s clothes. Aslanian, Emily Maas. "10 Best Young Adult Books We Read in 2017". PopCrush . Retrieved 14 May 2019. This includes Maeve, whose older sister, Bronwyn, was one of the original Bayview Four, as well as recent outcast, Phoebe, and boy next door, Knox. Also, Karen M. McManus can really write characters! I don’t know how she managed to juggle three main characters along with at least five side characters while flushing them ALL out perfectly! Honestly, this woman is talented and I will never not be addicted to her books. Honestly, there’s really not much to complain about with this book. Though I must point out that it’s more like a contemporary ft. mystery than a mystery ft. contemporary
