About this deal
As the country prepares to celebrate Prince Charles’ wedding to Lady Diana, Libby wants to be as far away from royal wedding fever as possible. I thought she was a terrific creation and I loved her feistiness and refusal to do what others expected of her. Whilst Libby stays with them, they remember their pasts full of family secrets and romances spanning 60 years.
A Secret Garden Affair – HarperCollins Publishers UK
There is a wealth of interesting information about garden design, and designers, which I really enjoyed. Just weeks before she is due to marry, Libby has fled London to the safety of her great aunt’s home, after finding her fiancee in bed with her best friend. Our features are original articles from our print magazines (these will say where they were originally published) or original articles commissioned for this site. Elfrida is a renowned garden designer and you can tell that the author has put a lot of her own love of gardening into the character. stars, I did enjoy aspects of this storyline but felt it jumped around the past/present (various random decades) and didn't flow very well at times.
We travel along with these two incredibly strong courageous women on their lives together and see them become each other’s rocks as they face many trials and tribulations along the way. With thanks to HQ Digital and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The story is set in 1981, as Libby flees London to spend time with her great aunt Bess and friend Elfrida, in Suffolk. When Libby finds her fiance Marcus in bed with her best friend Selina three weeks before her wedding, she flees London for the sanctuary of Larkspur House in Suffolk where her Great Aunt Bess lives with her friend Elfrida. With this engaging story taking place over 60 years, A Secret Garden Affair really deserves the title ‘a sweeping epic’. The multi-narration works well, and the nod to historical events, such as Charles and Diana's wedding helps to ground the narrative and provide a hook for the reader. As she does this, it stirs up memories for both Elfrida and Bess and the story moves back over the years to such glamorous places as the south of France and Italy.
