About this deal

Spawn made his animated debut in the HBO animated series Todd McFarlane's Spawn in which Spawn is voiced by Keith David. [52] The series won two Emmys (one in 1998 and another in 1999) and two Golden Reel Awards (1998/1999). [53] I understood Final Crisis and I can’t understand Batman/Spawn. What kind of topsy-turvy world am I living in?!) How do you feel about Frank Miller’s Batman? For me, Frank Miller’s take on Batman is always an enjoyable experience, yes even the much reviled “All Star Batman & Robin”, but if you especially hate the Goddamn Batman, you’re not going to like this one either. I like Miller’s take on the character because he writes him as a sociopathic rage machine in a cowl - no one else writes Batman in this distinct way and I think it’s hilarious.

Soulcalibur II (2003; Xbox) voiced by Akio Otsuka in the Japanese version and by Kevin Michael Richardson in the English dub. [52] To be clear, I don’t mind “edgy”, and I don’t mind dark themes in stories, but there’s a limit, and a moment when to have it. Miller simply disposes of a generic-stereotypical character to perform the role of Batman, almost as an excuse to have the two characters fighting each other just to make some cool panels, which leads me to my second issue: the art. McFarlane is, perhaps, one of the most emblematic artists that came out of the 90s, and his career only proved how much of an effective business man he is by exploiting his properties with such success, but when it comes to his artistic qualities, the guy is a hit and miss. Yes, he has crafted such iconic and memorable pieces of artwork for stuff such as ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘The Incredible Hulk’, and the first volumes in the ongoing ‘Spawn’ main series has some interesting designs that hasn’t aged that poorly, but other than that, his art only works as a reference, just to have way better artists continue his legacy. Two of the better ones that came to my mind are Greg Capullo, and Angel Medina, who had easily worked in the better arcs of the ‘Spawn’ series, or at least, in the better ones visually speaking. a b Wagner, Hank; Golden, Christopher; Bissette, Stephen R. (28 October 2008). Prince of Stories: The Many Worlds of Neil Gaiman. St. Martin's Press. pp.239–252. ISBN 978-1-4299-6178-3.McFarlane adds that having creators with substantial ties to the title characters also makes a difference. What are my experiences with Spawn? I read the first 26 issues, stopping right after the point that McFarlane stopped drawing and Capullo took over. I also read about 25 issues that were released between 2019 and 2021 before giving up soon after the introduction of the new titles. My point in bringing this up is that I am familiar with McFarlane’s writing and art. His art is brilliant. Easily some of the best work you will find in all of comics. It’s unfortunate how rarely he draws these days. His writing, unfortunately, is not good and continues to get worse. Many writers fall into habits and cliches of their own making as they get older or too comfortable but when someone’s writing was subpar to begin with, the result is insufferable.

Given their different tactics and ways of dealing with threats, it's obvious that Spawn and Batman wouldn't get along whatsoever. Spawn/Batman makes this obvious, but does so in a way that feels more natural than Batman's antagonism toward Superman whenever Miller writes the former. It's also, as mentioned, the very essence of crossover storylines between divergent franchises or characters in which they fight before "making up" in the end. Beyond this singular existence, the book would also continue to influence both properties. The scar on Spawn's face in subsequent issues of the main Spawn comic book is believed by many to have been inflicted by Batman's Batarang (though it was more likely done by Harry Houdini in another issue). It's fairly easy for us to show a guy [getting] emotional and [crossing] a line from time to time because we would. I would say, on some level, it's Al Simmons' Achilles' heel, that he can't control himself. He's not as mature and sophisticated a thinker as Bruce Wayne, and we're going to be touching on that in some of their conversations. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2023) with Keith David reprising his role. Spawn headlines the battle pass of Season 6, with multiple other in-game operators receiving skins themed around characters related to Spawn. [69] Todd, you mentioned Greg Capullo is the greatest Spawn artist of all time. What moment did you make that realization, and how has it been seeing his art evolve for this book? Capullo tells us with no small amount of excitement about little Clown minions (miniaturized versions of Spawn’s archnemesis, Violator, who takes on the appearance of a disheveled clown from time to time), and about the new Talon, the chief assassin of the Court of Owls, that they get to introduce in Batman Spawn. “There’s just too much fun stuff,” he says. “It’s like Todd is force-feeding as much fun into this thing as he possibly can. And he’s delivering the goods.”Spawn: New Flesh Collection (December 2007)– contains issues 166–169, plus a short story from Image Holiday Special 2005 The chance to work on a surefire hit featuring the two defining characters of his career was appealing for sure, but Capullo says working with his old pal McFarlane was the real draw for him. Here, well, the art is definitely McFarlane’s least striking, I could even go ahead and say is the laziest he has ever crafted. Is it horrible? Not necessarily, but if you dislike his work, this won’t change your mind about him. There’s only a couple of panels that look interesting, or at least, “attractive”, but the rest feels disproportionate, specially when referring to Batman’s physique, particularly in the eyes, who often look bigger for the size of the head, and this is just McFarlane trying to mimic Spawn’s design; you can clearly see he tried to make the two of them “similar”, but the shape of one don’t mix well with the other.
