About this deal

Although one of the main story lines that has run throughout the series has been resolved, you are left with the definite feeling that there is much more to come and it is eagerly awaited by this reader! De toutes façons, de manière générale, c'est vraiment un reproche que l'on peut faire à cette série. This works as a stand-alone but I think familiarity with past events would have added to my enjoyment. It’s hard to know which crackles with energy more, the various explosions and fires or their chemistry. No doubt frightening and worrying if this were real life - but not super enticing in terms of fictional plot.

It opens with Delilah Metcalfe of Bruncliffe’s Dales Detective Agency struggling to meet the mounting demands for the agency’s services. All of the elements of a standard cosy crime novel are present in this latest instalment of the Dales Detective. Des longueurs, du remplissage et des pages et des pages qui ne servent qu'à entretenir un suspense sans fin. Born with a wanderlust that keeps her moving, Julia has followed her restless feet to Japan, Australia, the USA and France. The reader knows who it is as the novel is told from various points of view, but they don’t know the lengths he will go to or why.

Biography: Julia Chapman is the pseudonym of Julia Stagg, who has had five novels, the Fogas Chronicles set in the French Pyrenees, published by Hodder.

In the eighth novel in the Dales Detective series, Date with Evil , Samson and Delilah are about to discover that all of their new cases may be connected to a network of evil that seems to be surrounding Bruncliffe. Alors, bien sûr, j'ai vraiment beaucoup aimé la fin, ce dénouement en fanfare où chacun à son rôle à jouer. But in this book, everything fits - and I really think that the author did great work connecting the dots of a complex mystery backstory spread across all the previous books.

J'ai retrouvé avec plaisir des personnages que j'aime énormément, la tension palpable, l'humour toujours présent, les émotions démultipliées.Romantic attachments that have been bubbling for a while are cemented, whilst the untrustworthy members of the town have been routed. I owed recommend starting this series with book 1, as each book builds up to the tremendous climax in this one. That leaves space to concentrate on the main plot line and for tying up of loose ends, while still leaving enough of a cliff hanger to please even the most ardent of thriller fans. From stolen washing to inheritance investigations, Bruncliffe's Dales Detective Agency is being inundated with cases.

It doesn’t help that both his detective agency and Delilah’s business are lettered the same, ‘DDA’ and in the same building! The pair have become embroiled in several cases that put them smack bang in the path of danger and in a ‘will-they, won’t-they’ relationship. The endearing inhabitants of Bruncliffe are back, banding together with good old Yorkshire grit, this time to foil an organised crime gang who, improbably, are running a drugs/people trafficking ring out of a bunch of old farm sheds. She is also the author of the Dales Detective series which follows the adventures of Samson O'Brien and Delilah Metcalfe as they solve cases in the Yorkshire Dales.Nevertheless, this makes for an easy read and definitely had me on the edge of my seat towards the end. This is the first book I've read waiting for its release - because I discovered The Dales Detective when the previous books were already published - and I read them, one after the other, last year.
