In one two player game I played, my opponent drew ancient tiles FOUR times in a row where I drew nice open tiles filled with population centers and bonus tiles.Individual faction boxes make setup super easy, then remain on hand as your resource tracking components and supply tray for the rest of the game. And as I continued to take in the positive feedback the ‘net had to offer on the game, I really had to ask myself if I really needed another 4x game in my collection.

Upgrading, building, and moving are the three actions directly tied to combat in the game, allowing you to swap out modules on your four ship blueprints, pump out new ships in your sectors, or move ships into adjacent sectors to conquer new lands. Usually, sectors start off occupied by one player or another, but if and when a player moves away from a sector they occupied, they’re fair game for anyone who wants to go for them.And although the pacing starts the experience with little to no confrontation, by the time the end of the game comes, there is the potential for a gloriously climatic battle. The Postal service will also send you a notification slip when your parcel is ready for pick-up, but years of experience makes us recommend you not to solely rely on this. One player may focus all their attention on their dreadnought (the largest ship) and beef it up with a super fast tachyon drive (letting it move earlier in combat) and devastating antimatter cannons, while another player might build a fleet of small interceptors armed with plasma missiles that fire once at the very start of combat, attempting to knock opponents out of the sky before they can do anything.
