About this deal

I won’t bother with a plot recitation, since I’m sure you’re familiar with it if you’re reading this review. If you’re wondering what the fuss is all about, I would even recommend Pulp Fiction as a blind buy in this new 4K Ultra HD release from Paramount. The only bummer about it is that they didn’t use the iconic theater poster art on the front of this SteelBook. The reason why I wanted to explain a little about the quality of the source material is that I think it's very important to how I and others review this movie. Likewise, I want to give others an idea of where I'm going with this thought. I'll list a few things that I noticed from the quality of the actual source. Deleted Scenes– Next up are some deleted scenes, five in all, hosted by the man himself. Quentin is very sure of himself, dissing the “Director’s Cuts” that are out there and telling us, quite frankly, that he made the movie he wanted to make the first time.

Dialog volume I found to be slightly inconsistent. It reminds me of the way Christopher Nolan does sound. He lets dialog breathe in the scene, and that means that dialog can be captured at different volumes. I felt this really only affected the start of the movie, however. It's like "sound over distance" is being simulated here, which makes the audio more believable. What hit us was not only the unique way Tarantino wrote dialogue but also the narrative structure he had crafted, in which the story didn’t unspool in a linear way. Sure, he wasn’t the first person to do either of those things in film, but he did so at a time when conventional narratives were the norm at multiplexes. |It's literally because Weinstein owns the rights to all of those movies. It's the same reason there's no Dogma either. Ask Kevin Smith. No one in Hollywood wants to give any money to that guy. So if you didn't already want the man to die. Here's another reason. Production Design Featurette(6.5 minutes) Production Designer David Wasco and Set Decorator Sandy Reynolds-Wasco talk about how they developed the look and feel of the movie. Deleted Scenes(24.5 minutes): This is a group of five excised scenes with introductions by Tarantino, who dismisses any talk of a Director’s Cut that reinstates the footage. Considering the clout he developed a long time ago, I’m sure he could have released such a version if he wanted to, so fans should respect his wishes. That said, there’s some interesting footage to be found here.Charlie Rose Show– A rather long (almost an hour) look at Tarantino’s life. His origin into film, his vast knowledge and everything else relating to the film are all covered here. A bit long, but well worth it. Production Design Featurette– David Wasco, Production Designer, and Sandy Reynolds-Wasco, Set Decorator give us their insight on the design of the film.

In terms of image quality, this is the best Pulp Fiction has looked since its original theatrical run. Sure, any 4K Ultra HD disc can promise that, but not all of them have delivered, such as Terminator 2’s excessive use of DNR to create a plastic-looking image. I can still remember walking out of a movie theater with a friend after seeing Pulp Fiction for the first time. It was as if a wave had washed over us, and we were emerging from the surf, drenched but in awe of what we had just experienced. So if you didn't already want the man to die. Here's another reason. Cannes Film Festival – Palme D’Or Acceptance Speech(5 minutes): Unsurprisingly, Pulp Fiction made a huge splash at Cannes, and this is Tarantino’s acceptance speech for winning the grand prize during that year’s festival. Paramount has released the long-anticipated UHD for the classic 1994 film 'Pulp Fiction,' directed by Quentin Tarantino and starring John Travoltaall of the legacy extras from the 2011 Blu-ray.
