The RTIC’s lid is surprisingly secure, given the competition. You can usually hold this cup upside down, or even leave it sitting on a table upside down, and not see more than a few drops. As soon as you shake it or drop it on the floor, though, all bets are off. (The more fluid you have inside, the more explosive the spill will be when the flip-cap pops open.) Cleaning these tumblers and lids was easy, even by hand. Compared to popular travel mugs like the Contigo – West Loop with its springs and levers on the inside of the lid, a tumbler lid is dead simple to clean. My tea stays hot for my entire commute home, which can sometimes be up to 2 hours if the traffic is bad or I get caught up. 6. It’s vacuum insulated, double-walled and made from the highest quality 18/8 stainless steel. To me, it feels strong, robust and well made. The Beast and Yeti tumblers are both sturdy tumblers with similar price ranges, builds, and sizes. Some of the basic differences lie in the lids. The Yeti lid has a slab that slides shut and can come off, making it easy to wash. The Beast lid has a snap-shut lid that is slightly harder to remove. The differences between the mugs seemed smaller and smaller as we got used to them. The flip-lid from RTIC doesn’t flop around as much as most travel mug lids in this style, which was our biggest concern. The slide closures on the YETI and Pelican – Traveler were easy to use, though not any more so than the flip lid. Cleaning test For ease of use, the tumbler has a tapered end, meaning it fits into pretty much any regular cupholder. That also means that you can take it anywhere you go and always have somewhere to put it. Plus, as mentioned above, the cup doesn't sweat, so you won't get your hands or anything else wet in the process. It will not leave water stains on surfaces, and better yet, it won't water stain itself either. Any watermarks that accumulate can usually be scrubbed away with no problem.
The big difference with a tumbler is the lid. While a travel mug is still designed for easy-access sipping, many tumblers don’t have any kind of stopper at all to slow down your sipping pleasure. The lids are simple and easy to clean, but they offer far less insulation than good travel mugs. The best travel mugs keep your coffee hotter and your laptop (not to mention pants) safer from spills.

It's hard to imagine any downsides to getting a Yeti tumbler at all. However, there are at least one or two things that you may want to be aware of before investing. We love that the BEAST actually lives up to the hype and does what it says it will. If I put icy water mixed with lemon for flavor in my tumbler, the ice is still found 8 hours later! Our testers liked the insulating capability of this tumbler and that there was no metallic taste in the water during testing. One tester noted they'd like to see this model be a bit taller and thinner and with a cover to close the lid's drinking hole. "This wine tumbler style isn't something I'd recommend to a friend, although the quality of this one is good," concluded another tester. "If you like wine-style tumblers, this one is the one to buy." Additionally, while the lid is easy to clean and stays on the cup pretty well, it is not spillproof. An owner of both a Yeti and Beast tumbler tried tipping the cups upside down while full of water with the lids shut. The Beast did not leak at all, while the Yeti did let a few drizzles of water go. This doesn't take away from its credibility, but it is just a little bit of a downer.
Yeti has basically become synonymous with high-end coolers and tumblers. The Rambler Tumbler is Yeti’s version of a beer mug, but it’s a fantastic option for holding any kind of beverage. That's thanks to Yeti's double-wall vacuum insulation, which does a good job of keeping cold drinks cool and hot drinks warm for long periods of time. Another perk of the Yeti Rambler is it's dishwasher safe, increasing the ease of cleaning. The lid is advertised as, “Sliding Spill-Resistant, Shatterproof Crystal Clear Straw Friendly BPA Free”… what a mouthful! Erika Owen is a big fan of super cold water. A simple water bottle doesn't pass the temperature test. She's been testing insulated tumblers for years and is constantly searching for the perfect travel-friendly option that doesn't eat up (too much) precious carry-on space. Of the two brands that are trying sliders, YETI is fairly successful, while Pelican’s lid is a hot mess. It’s not clear exactly what the issue is, since the basics of the mechanism seem the same, but the Pelican lid always dribbled a stream of water when we turned it upside down. The YETI “Mag Slider” lid isn’t as magical as it sounds, but it works fairly well to stop anything more than occasional drips.
Conclusion
The differences between these tumblers is so small that it would be impossible to tell them apart. The real difference is between the tumblers and the water bottle: because the vacuum-sandwich stainless steel walls provide the most effective insulation, the wide lid of a tumbler is a real liability. Even the fact that the Hydro Flask tumbler has no seal to keep steam in made only a tiny difference in the test. The YETI – Rambler is the product that got everyone buzzing about giant insulated cups, and they’re still the most recognizable.
