Andro & Eve, creators of Yorkshire's biggest drag king cabaret, The Kingdom Come will be joined by award winning drag king LoUis CYfer and theatre director and academic, Natalie Diddams to help you develop a drag king character. The two day practical course will explore gender as performance, character development, comedy improvisation, alongside technical and performance skills in mansformation through fun and creative workshops.No performance experience is necessary to attend these workshops, but you'll benefit most from a willingness to get involved and readiness to perform in front of others. It is expected you will attend both days of training in order to get the most from this course and develop your drag king character fully.Day 1 will explore makeup and body transformation skills, vocal skills and gender as performance / character development. They have won numerous awards including Drag Idol Champion as Louis Cyfer (2014), Spirit of the Fringe Award, Scotsman Fringe First Award and Stage Edinburgh Award for Joan (2016).Natalie Diddams is a theatre director & academic based in Manchester. As a director, she has produced a large number of productions including His Dark Materials (Royal & Derngate), My Brother’s Country (The Lowry, ARC, Theatre in the Mill), The Believers Are But Brothers (Ovalhouse, Shepherd’s Bush Theatre), B!RTH (Royal Exchange Theatre) and Thesmo (West Yorkshire Playhouse, Theatre in the Mill, Square Chapel). Natalie is currently writing a PhD about feminism and comedy at Manchester Metropolitan University and is the founder of the Women's Comedy Network in Bradford. She is an Associate Lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University, The University of Warwick, University of Northampton and University of Bradford, and a founding member of the Mixed Bill research collective. Katherine Warman is the co-founder and Artistic Director of Andro and Eve. For the organisation she has programmed and produced 15 different events including, The Kingdom Come, film screenings, and queer party, A Reyt Queer Do. Since 2018 she has also designed and delivered several drag and gender as performance workshops for Andro and Eve. Katherine is an experienced workshop faciliator and since 2006 has worked on numerous participatory arts projects, with organisations including The Royal Exchange Manchester, Contact, The Whitworth and Opera North. With ten years experience delivering weekly holistic performing arts sessions in primary schools, Katherine holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Performing Arts Leadership from the RNCM.
