I received this book from NetGalley Ian Bookoucher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review. Balancing both her home life and her professional one over the years, she feels that time is now right to quit her job and move on to new territory. My only gripe would be that somewhere in the middle there was a bit of a lag that I had to push through. Mostly because it seems to be a way authors are trying to build suspense lately, for example (and not quoting the book, I don't think) "if only I knew then what I do now".They marry quickly but due to something happening on their wedding day, Alice’s gut feeling is soon telling her not to trust Nik. Sue is now exploring the darker side of life with her thrillers OUR LITTLE LIES, THE WOMAN NEXT DOOR, THE EMPTY NEST, THE SISTER-IN-LAW, FIRST DATE and her latest, THE FOREVER HOME.
At this time, Alice also becomes aware of a rash of disappearances of young women on the Island which has her intrigued but also weary of her new friends. Creating stories about real characters, she would establish worlds and narrative that were both witty and inventive in equal measure. Allison and Nick quickly fall in love despite his weird actions and the younger woman Angelina who openly flirts with Nick and is also equally openly hostile to Alice but he claims to love Alice and so they marry.
With events back in the UK catching up to her fast she confides in Nik about what happened and he offers to help. I think this is a book you want to read in one sitting, because if you don't, then you have to go back and read again so you don't forget the little details that make this book so outstanding. I really enjoy reading Sue Watson books, I like her style of writing and how she draws you into the story, it's a case of never just one more chapter. But his cousin and an antagonistic relationship with colleague Angelica mean that she isn’t confident in her new life. Making a new friend in Sylvie and a potential beau when it comes to a handsome man named Nik, it just might be that Alice’s life has hit the reset button.Her hobby is eating cake while watching diet and exercise programmes from the sofa, a skill she’s perfected after many years of practice. After an altercation Alice who suffers from PTSD and blackouts finds out she is accused of the unthinkable. However, after the halfway point, the story really started coming together for me and I really started wondering how everything was going to be resolved.Her time spent working at the BBC would come to influence her heavily over the years, something which can be seen reflected within her work. The British author Sue Watson is well known for her fun and inventive style of writing that gets straight to the heart of what it is that she’s trying to say. Oh my goodness… My head is still spinning… Twist after twist, jaw-dropper after jaw-dropper, bombshell after bombshell… I didn’t know who to trust and it was all just so delicious! Alcohol was her medication of choice to deal with distresses of infertility as well as some major problems during her marriage.
