We've tested this trail shoe rigorously, and the newest update proves to be one of the best iterations we've seen in a long time. The newest update features an enhanced stone guard, more cushioning in the midsole (without adding any weight), and a seemingly more durable upper (yet time will tell). Balanced cushioning - Altra's balanced cushioning platform positions your heel and forefoot at an equal distance from the ground, encouraging better alignment, form and a low-impact lining. Foot-shaped toe box - allows for toes to relax and spread out naturally for more comfort and stability in uphill climbs and downhill descents.

I have Morton's Neuromas so bought the Altras to prevent squeezing of the toes width wise as well as for the zero drop which means no pressure is placed on the forefoot. We've tested versions of the Lone Peak over the last six years, and the traction pattern and rubber have changed and seen some make-overs, but the new outsole isn't much different from the previous model. In the case of the Lone Peak All_WTHR Low, the upper is stiffer and the heel cup doesn’t lock as well. A foot-shape toe-box ensures your feet remain protected from debris or falling rocks which you may encounter during trail running.The wider fit allows room for splayed toes, but it doesn't have the slippage problem found on the Lone Peak during the descents. From day hikes to thru-hikes and everything in between, the Lone Peak ALL-WTHR Mid is ready to romp. We've worn iterations of this model while traveling across the world on terrain ranging from rocky hikes in Colorado to trailless tundra in Iceland.
