Each gathering will celebrate one of our planets most fascinating animals. These events will embody and inform of the nature and the welfare of this one beautiful animal. To raise awareness of welfare and activism initiatives by means of a creative, informative, musical, visual and sensual feast. Channel your inner animal, and be part of this new beginning, as Audio Farm presents; The Year of the Animal. We start the series with Part 1 - The Pangolin…...////// THE PANGOLIN //////The beautiful, amazing and unique Pangolin is the only mammal in the world that is completely covered in scales, and is 1 of 10 animals that Sir David Attenborough quoted “...would be on my personal ark”, and with good reason. It is an 80 million year old species. In comparison, Homo Sapiens is a mere 8 million years old. When threatened it rolls itself up into an armour-plated ball that protects it from all known predators. However, humans and poachers simply pick up the balls and take them away – on such a scale that Pangolins have become the world’s most trafficked mammal. The demand for Pangolins comes mostly from China, where Pangolin scales are unfortunately believed to be a cure of illnesses and Pangolin flesh is considered a delicacy. In Vietnam and other parts of Asia, Pangolins are frequently offered at restaurants catering to wealthy patrons who want to eat rare and endangered wildlife. There is no evidence to support claims regarding medicinal properties of Pangolin scales or any other part of the Pangolin.According to WildAid, Chinese Pangolins have disappeared from most of their habitats, with their population having fallen by more than 94% since the 1960s. The demand then shifted towards the neighbouring Sunda Pangolin, which in turn suffered an 80% decline over the last 21 years. With these huge drop’s in numbers of Asian Pangolin’s, some Chinese Medicine Manufacturer’s are now getting Pangolin scales from Africa and usually under illegal means. It has been estimated that as many as one million Pangolins have been illegally traded within Asia in the past 10-15 years. The BBC documentary - “The World's Most Wanted Animal” is worth a watch if you want to know more.https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0b3gg0t/natural-world-20182019-5-pangolins-the-worlds-most-wanted-animal CHILDREN - Children are welcome at the venue until 8pm.SLEEPING - There is very very limited campervan spaces on site. We cant guarantee a space for anyone. However Manchester, and especially Chorlton is very accommodating for campervans. There is no camping space, but there are many cheap hostels in Manchester.
