About this deal

The main door you use – the ‘mouth’ of your house – isn’t necessarily the property’s original one, so if you use your utility or side door more, that’s your main door which should be celebrated and respected. And try to arrange the furniture so that it almost forms a circle, implying a hallway near the entrance. In Feng Shui Modern, Cliff explains the concepts of feng shui and then uses expert tips and practical diagrams to show – room by room – how our own styles, colour palettes and furniture can be used to maximise any environment. In an increasingly cramped world, a modern guide to opening up your living space – and your life – using the ancient principles of feng shui.

Our homes have an outsized impact on our wellbeing, so answering these questions is more important than ever.

Thanks to the book, I realized that at its core, Feng Shui is really just about making your home feel safe and comfortable for you. Sure, it’ll take up less floor space, but if you place it horizontally, the air space is freer, the room will feel more open, and you can display beautiful things on top. But then I read the intro to this book and realized Modern Feng Shui is about feeling good in the space you’re in and making the most of what you have. Tan explains the reasoning behind core feng shui principles and encourages the reader to adapt based on what feels best individually. But the chances are you need to spend eight hours a day sitting there, and you don’t want to make yourself miserable in a dark corner!

I found this author on TikTok and his videos were so helpful in explaining why some rooms feel cramped/uncomfortable - this book is a great reference! I LOVE plants in rooms, but if you really struggle to keep them alive, suggest life instead with a bowl of fruit, sculptural lighting or hanging mobiles.

You can stop it looking messy – put the tall things on the side, create negative (empty) space in front, use odd numbers of objects which go easier on the eye, and create clusters of colourful things together rather than spreading them around which can feel uneven if the rest of your colour scheme is neutral. Feng shui – the centuries-old guidelines for design – literally means ‘the way of wind and water’ and refers to the ideal location and orientation for the perfect city: with proximity to a river, protection from the hills and safety from floods. Feng Shui always seemed kind of mystical-ish but Cliff made it approachable and digestible in his videos and I knew I had to give his book a try. So if I were to name one problem with this book it's that he saves the anecdote about he got into the Feng Shui business to the afterwards when it should have been in the forward.

With 18 million copies sold worldwide, THE SHACK is an international bestseller that explores life's toughest questions through the gripping story of one man's struggle to find answers to his suffering. We are going to tell you the truth, so you can make an informed decision about your life and your body . Since I'd already done that, reading this felt slightly redundant and I don't think I acquired any new information. If it’s a side door backing onto an alley, decorate it with plants either side, or create a path signifying the entrance. Every year we publish a selection of books and pamphlets that address the key issues facing activists and trade unionists. If the sofa has to ‘float’ (rather than be against a wall), a low console table behind it offers rear protection. If you are looking for a simple to read introduction to Feng Shui in the home then this is for you, easy to follow sections and explanation about the principles.
