About this deal

The outer half of the cross slope is brought to the level rotating about the crown line at the start of the transition curve. Though the outside rail in this caseis unsupported as you say, I've never experienced any problems yet. Terry was GREAT to deal with and the cost was VERY reasonable)who made shims for us, 3/16" at the thick end and 1/64" at the shallow end and 2. That's a pretty wide span to be used to alter the super-elevation of a curve that might occur between those joists. I use 1/16" styrene under the inside edge of the ties, which makes for quite a bit of reverse super elevation.

What I did is start the height adjustment right before entering the curve with a slight elevation increase every 2-inches. I've decided that on my super-elevated curves I'm going to put the glue bead a little more toward the inside of the curve. That is just my personal preference based upon mechanical strength, stability, workability, spike-holding and sound deadening. Also avoid placing switches just outside the curve as that needs to be your easement back down to level track.

To prevent the damaging effect on the surface of the roads due to improper distribution of load on the roads. I think a better way is to mount the roadbed on subroadbedon risers and tilt them to create the superelevation. The main disadvantage of this method is the difficulty of draining water in some portion of the road length where the slope on the outer edge is less (gradually decreased) than the camber provide on the road. Certainly with high speeds and modern equipment more superlevationis appropriate but not in thetransiitionera particularly if there are grades involved.

It is very essential to provide superelevation in roads for the safe movement of vehicles on the curved portion of the roads. I've never built a layout with super-elevated curves, but after seeing some really cool pictures taken on layouts that have them, I'd like to give it a try. To set the riser angle you can use any of a number of digital levels available that measure in degrees.

We also have to trim some off the inside of the curve where the shim would protrude about 1/8" trim the roadbed when fully inserted under the roadbed. I didn't know that about the inner rail height staying the same on the prototype, or that the inch elevation is almost equal to the tilt angle. I think it will also give some support so you don't run into the tie deflection issue you brought up. Some guys wanted a higher elevation to make a more spectacular scene, but running at scale speeds (and much higher! The forces which are acting on a vehicle while it is moving on the horizontal circular curve are as follows. To ensure the smooth and safe movement of vehicles and passengers on the curved portion of the roads. In the first method, the outer half of the cross slope is rotated about the crown at the rate such that the surface of road falls on the same plane and the elevation of the centre line is not varied.
