About this deal

This book was a nice read after finishing a longer one, this was supposed to be short and fun, but it was a bit more because it turned out to be a bit emotional and charged with real issues like alcohol abuse and in this genre (f/f) that's not common.

Never Mine: A Lesbian Romance by Bryce Oakley | The StoryGraph

As is with other of Oakley's books, this is an enjoyable slow burn, and this time with a fake dating profile- it adds to the fun. Did I think Sage's reasoning for needing a fake girlfriend could use more work? Sure. But I just went along with it. Support authors: If you like this and can afford it, consider buying the original, or supporting the authors directly. Right. Totally,” Willa said, making a show of looking at Sage’s own name tag. “Oh, Sage Carson. I remember you played…” Play it cool. “Sports?”Billie, an indie singer/songwriter really wanted to write and perform pop rather than the same old kind of tunes that launched her group, the Shrikes, with her sister and two band mates. Vero, a pop star who left her group, finished her stint in rehab and is trying to launch her solo career has only one problem. She hasn't been able to write any songs! Now that's a problem.

Ah, there it was. She nodded, trying to keep her pleasant smile plastered to her face. “Sure was. Am. I mean, am. He’s alive. Currently alive.” Stop talking. “Not at all dead, don’t worry. He’s in sales now.” She couldn’t shut up. “For, uh… Google.” Sage was nodding, but Willa had the sinking feeling that she was losing interest. She should start searching for a path to hide under the giant inflatable seashell. MD5 of a better version of this file (if applicable). Fill this in if there is another file that closely matches this file (same edition, same file extension if you can find one), which people should use instead of this file. If you know of a better version of this file outside of Anna’s Archive, then please upload it. What about you?” Sage asked. She glanced around the room, and Willa wondered if she was trying to find an out to their conversation. Or if she was even listening. Women like Sage Carson had never spoken to her, not in high school, not at bars, and definitely not at high school reunions in an old man’s club. Why in the world was Sage still talking to her? She turned slightly, giving Sage an out if she wanted to leave instead of chat. An awkward silence stretched between them as Willa pressed her lips together, shifting her weight between her heels.

Yeah, I know.” Willa snorted, then caught herself. Her eyes widened as Sage turned to slowly look at her. Cool, now she was about to come off as a stalker. But could Sage honestly believe that people from her high school hadn’t watched her win gold in the Olympics? Honestly? I thought that the banter between the two main characters was really funny and I liked the chemistry that slowly built between the two of them. Their relationship progressed in a believable way. I thought that them writing songs together was an organic way to have them grow closer. This was a pretty short book so it never got too deep, but I did enjoy some of the commentary it had on the music industry and fame as a whole.

Sage grinned, her mouth quirking up at the edge in lopsided amusement. “I did. And you were… Lachlan’s little sister.” Oh, yeah, it was soccer, if I remember correctly,” Willa said with an exaggerated thinking face, her brows pulled low as she tapped her chin. Opción #1: Servidor de Compañero Lento #1 (podría requerir verificación del navegador - ¡descargas ilimitadas!) This is a fake-dating romance, which is one of my favorite tropes because it forces two characters who aren't romantically attached to grow that relationship until there is, what is usually, a genuine romantic attachment, and Never Mine succeeds in delivering on that trope.Overall, I enjoyed the story. I'm just starting to read my way through Oakley's work and I'm looking forward to reading more. What worked less well is the pace of the relationship. I felt like the last bit, maybe the last third or quarter, was very rushed. So I don't think the relationship really gelled as well as it could have and the whole dark moment felt flat and a bit tedious going through it. It doesn't help that we get an outright villain and a well-meaning friend being destructive to make it happen. So the story tanked a bit from it's early high. Never Mine is a fake relaionship kind of story between to women, one of whom is a world class soccer player and the other an event coordinator, who get thrown together by a mutual need for a date for an event. Of course what started out as a fake relationship doesn't stay that for long ... Just what I needed! I have had some disappointments recenly with the books I chose after Never Mine

I’m sure they’re totally fine even though they look…” Willa gestured towards the pitiful veggie tray. “Store-bought.” Why did she feel the need to defend cut vegetables? On the bird feed I saw that some self published authors were getting some grief for self publishing. I don’t care how an authors get their work out there, but in my opinion self publishing is brave and if you make it look as good as Bryce Oakley does, why would you do it any other way? Having full creative control makes for great books by Oakley and I applaud her for doing it al herself. I read a lot of celebrity romances because it’s one of my jams, but it was interesting to get a different take on a pop star romance. This isn’t about performing or the limelight, but instead about the behind-the-scenes work of crafting music, and I enjoyed seeing that. I knew very little about Never Mine before I started reading it, only that the only other Bryce Oakley novel I'd read, I enjoyed well enough, but that cover had my attention.

A cute funny story about two women in the music business and both are already successful and famous before the start of the series. The biggest downside was that the angst was not resolved in a satisfying way. I liked the twist on the miscommunication trope but just needed a little more payoff to really feel like the pining was worth it. In Never Mine me meet two women: Sage Carson, a nation-wide celebrity, the first soccer player brave enough to come out in such a straight environment, and Willa Bellamy, who works in a Zoo making contracts and organazing events. They two meet and start a fake relationship that then becomes something more. This turned out to be a fun, light read. The MCs were lovely, I just wanted more from the romance than I was given. Sage and Willa spent a great deal of time apart, and the days they spent physically together were shorter than I would've liked. This was extremely slow burn where they only accepted their feelings for each other so far down the book. But if I were to describe their relationship, I'd say they were well on their way to falling in love, I just needed a bit more convincing that they already were by the end of this story. Sage is not totally sold on the idea of a fake relationship but when she attends her 15 year high school reunion she realises that it may not be the worst plan in the world, especially since she has reconnected with a former acquaintance from school, Willa, and there is just something about this beautiful woman that draws Sage.
