About this deal

Wand: Like most wizards and witches, Moody owned and carried a wand. [6] If he was ever deprived of his wand he would use his staff instead. [49] Barty Crouch Jnr: " No! Mother, no! I didn't do it, I didn't do it, I didn't do it, I didn't know! Don't send me there, don't let him! I'm your son! I'm your son!" Barty Crouch Snr: " You are no son of mine! I have no son!" — Barty failing to gain his father's sympathy before his imprisonment [src] In the films, Moody is portrayed considerably different from his literary counterpart. Differences between his description in the book and his portrayal on film include his magical eye being held in place by an eye patch-like strap and brass ring, having a less mutilated face, including a full nose instead of a piece of it missing. He briefly appears in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as a result of Priori Incantatem, when Harry's wand and Voldemort's meet, showing the most recent spells cast by each – in the case of Voldemort's wand, the most recent lives taken. He makes a final appearance at the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows through the use of the Resurrection Stone. In 1994, he agreed to Albus Dumbledore's request to become the new Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor at Hogwarts; [11] however, he was kidnapped just prior to taking up the position by Barty Crouch Jnr, who subsequently disguised himself as Moody as part of a plan to kidnap Harry Potter on the instructions of Lord Voldemort. [15]

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, Year 7, Chapter 5 ( The Ministry of Magic) - Assignment "The Rogue Alchemist" Dumbledore reveals that Moody is the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. Moody seems totally indifferent to the lukewarm reception he receives. He reaches into his travelling cloak and pulls out a hip-flask and takes a long drink from it. When he lifts his arm to drink his cloak is pulled a few inches from the ground, revealing several inches of carved wooden leg, ending in a clawed foot. Moody enters the Death Chamber with Sirius, Remus, Tonks and Kingsley. They rain spells down on the Death Eaters, hurrying down the stone steps towards the sunken floor of the room. Moody is hit with a spell by one of the Death Eaters; he lies on his side, bleeding from the head, his magical eye spinning away across the floor. Crouch, a manipulative man and clearly a convincing actor (he was able to convincingly pose as Alastor Moody for over nine months), was trying to escape prison to resume searching for Voldemort. Crouch thought that killing Harry would please Voldemort. In fact, Voldemort would have been furious, since he repeatedly stated that only he would kill Harry.Crouch Jnr's soul removal marked the functional end of the Crouch family bloodline, [18] and what happened to Crouch's empty body following this, is unknown, although it is possible that Crouch died sometime in the mid- 1990s; circa 1996. [2]

Moody was one of the best Aurors at the Ministry of Magic in his time, and is now retired. Charlie tells Harry that half the cells in Azkaban are full because of Mad-Eye, and that he has made himself lots of enemies because of this. According to Charlie, Moody has been getting more paranoid in his old age; he doesn't trust anyone, and sees Dark wizards everywhere he goes. The day before the Hogwarts School term begins, there is an incident at Mad-Eye's house, which the Improper Use of Magic Department go to investigate. Moody tells them that he heard an intruder trying to break into his house, before his magical dustbins ambushed them. Barty Crouch Jnr may have won this wand's allegiance when he overpowered, defeated and kidnapped Moody before the start of Harry's fourth year. It is most likely he did, considering he was able to cast many difficult spells without any apparent problems. Furthermore, it is unknown how it worked for Alastor Moody after he was freed, as it is never stated how a wand that has been won behaves towards its original master afterwards.Even though the Kiss is not shown, it still happened anyway, since there are no contradictions to the book about people's fates even though they are not shown. It is implied in the later films, however, that it did happen when Voldemort broke his Death Eaters out of Azkaban and Crouch Jnr did not appear. For eight months, Barty disguised himself as Alastor Moody through the usage of Polyjuice Potion. During this time, his face would be covered with scars, with chunks of his nose missing, and dark grey grizzled hair. He also took Alastor's prosthetics, both the magical eye and wooden leg, for his own.

After Filch and Snape leave, Moody climbs the stairs to where Harry is hidden. He is curious about the Marauder's Map, and is interested to see how it works. Moody asks whether Harry saw who broke into Snape's office, and is surprised when Harry admits he saw Barty Crouch on the Map. Moody tells Harry that there have been some funny rumours around lately surrounding the Quidditch World Cup, and the appearance of the Dark Mark, and says that if there is one thing he hates, it is a Death Eater who walked free. He asks Harry if he can borrow the Marauder's Map, thinking that he can make good use of the map. Professor Moody informs the fourth-years students that he will be placing them under the Imperius Curse during their lesson, to demonstrate its power and to see whether they can resist its effects. When Hermione questions the legality of this, Moody tells her that Dumbledore requested they be taught what the curse feels like, and says that she can be excused from the class if she wants. Moody places the Imperius Curse on the students in turn, making them do some extraordinary things. When he comes to Harry, Moody attempts to force him to jump onto the desk. He is impressed when Harry manages to fight the curse, and insists on putting the boy through his paces four more times, until Harry can throw the curse off entirely. Barty Crouch Junior (disguised as Alastor Moody) hired as the DADA professor, drinking Polyjuice PotionMoody enters the classroom for the fourth-year Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson. He tells the students they can put away their books, as they won't be needing them. Moody tells the class that they are very behind on dealing with curses, and says that he will be bringing them up to scratch on what harm wizards can do to each other. He tells the class that he has one year to teach them how to deal with Dark magic as he intends to return to his retirement at the end of the year. Part of the Advance Guard that helped Harry in his escape from the Dursleys in the fifth book. She then escorts the Dursleys into hiding at the beginning of the final book, along with Dedalus Diggle. Hestia is surprised to know that the Dursleys are unaware of Harry's importance in the anti-Voldemort movement, and later confronts them for the treatment they give to the boy.
