Many consider the 2020 Lenovo Legion 5 the best-value gaming laptop of its generation, especially in the AMD Ryzen variants with higher-tier graphics. However, those configurations were not available worldwide, and only topped at Geforce 60 mid-level graphics, which did not suffice for some potential buyers. The synthetic tests above are helpful for measuring general 3D aptitude, but it's hard to beat full retail video games for judging gaming performance. Far Cry 5 and Rise of the Tomb Raider are both modern, high-fidelity titles with built-in benchmarks that illustrate how a system handles real-world video games at various settings. We run them at the games' moderate and maximum graphics quality presets (Normal and Ultra for Far Cry 5, Medium and Very High for Rise of the Tomb Raider) at 1080p resolution. It’s a full keyboard layout with a Numpad on this model. It’s interesting, because the Numpad has smaller keys than the rest of the keyboard, but I actually like it. It’s a better solution than cramping all of the keys together. The price you pay is the main keyboard is slightly offset to the left. I barely noticed a problem with it.

Quiet mode isn’t too shabby either, which is a good reason to opt for the 3070, if keeping noise levels low is your style. Still, it would have been nice if Lenovo included a QHD screen as an option. I think it would have paired better with the RTX 3070 for sure.WLAN runtime is almost an hour longer than on the Intel version of the Legion 5 Pro 16 when set to the Balanced power profile with the iGPU active. The improved battery life is likely due to the more efficient AMD CPU when running less loads as shown by our Power Consumption section above. Nonetheless, it is still relatively short at just under 4.5 hours compared to almost 8 hours on theAsus ROG Zephyrus M16.

The average temperature for the upper side under maximal load is 37.4 °C / 99 F, compared to the average of 33.9 °C / 93 F for the devices in the class Gaming. When you get right down to it, the Legion 5 Pro is an excellent laptop in so many ways. Of course the main draw is the 16″ 16:10 screen, which is both bright and beautiful, but also unique to just a select few laptops at the time of this review. I wish it was the high gamut panel like on the Asus Zephyrus M16, but it’s still better than almost everything else out there. I’ve read other reports of middling battery life. I’m not sure how to respond to that though, because I think these results are pretty decent considering the hardware involved. Gaming laptops in general usually have awful battery life, so this is refreshing to see.
