About this deal

Monroe drew some extraordinary conclusions from what he thought of as his prescient dreams/experiences.

Rather, Monroe, an American businessman who had had a successful career in radio, discovered in the late 1950s that he could exit his physical body, and decided to develop his own experimental program to learn about this strange state. I found this book to be the most interesting, informative, exhaustive and enjoyable work on the subject I’ve read so far (though Greg Doyle’s book “Awakening the Giant within” is also excellent). Before I begin, I'd like to say just a couple of things about myself, my attitude toward the supernatural, and my general relationship with subjects of the supernatural.Much of this can probably be attributed to his background and upbringing which makes it even more believable as he was a middle class, average joe persona. Having had frequent OOBE since childhood myself, it's great to come across an author who can validate and explained the similar experiences that I had in the astral world. It is true that psychologists and psychiatrists regard the dreams of patients as useful clues to the malfunctioning of their personalities; but even in this application dreams and other nocturnal experiences are generally not treated as real in any sense, but only as some sort of internal data processing of the human computer.

The first thing to know about the author of "Journeys Out of the Body" is about methodical exploration. One of these similarities was the sense of floating away from the physical body and witnessing events going on around and near their corpse. There was very little written about the subject at the time Robert began having these experiences and the phrase "out-of-body experience" didn't even exist yet. The young woman explained this as the astral body dropping from the "zone of quietude" just above the physical body back into that body, creating the frightening feeling of a fall.He told me to stay put and three guards came to the room and open the door which was unlocked as I said oh, and they stared at me like they couldn't believe what they were experiencing with this unlock the door. When the 'markers' were nothing like what he saw, he passed them off as symbolic and marveled at how correct they were. I found it quite fascinating, even though it is much different from Moody's and Eadie's books, in that it is not concerned so much with death and the spiritual aspects of OOBEs. the very useful descriptions of how to achieve the out of body state, the many experiences shared of what happened, where he went, what he saw .

Munroe points out a curious habit of society that I’ve noticed: “Many (in spiritual and occult circles) have deep professional jealousy for each other, and often are inclined to be suspicious of techniques and theories propounded outside their particular activity. In our action-oriented society, when a man lies down to sleep, he is effectively out of the picture. They may even subtly deride or look with tolerant, superior amusement at results unrelated to their specialty. The person feels that he has directly experienced being alive and conscious without his physical body, and therefore knows that he possesses some kind of soul that will survive bodily death. Different than many other books that claim to teach the neophyte, there is no preditorial hooks attempting to manipulate any emotionally vulnerable readers looking for the secrets or short cuts.

Almost every time I give a speech on this subject, someone comes up to me afterward and thanks me for talking about it. As a result, his actual prose is "scientific" sounding: detached, neutral, and with a fair amount written in the passive voice. I can also recommend My Big Toe by Thomas Campbell for those who really want to dig deeper into the topic. Thus most people are in the habit of forgetting their dreams, and, on the occasions when they do remember them, they usually regard them as mere oddities. I liked that he described the phenomena as objectively as he could despite the very subjective nature of the experience.
