About this deal

May also contain light spine creasing or a few markings such as an owner's name, short gifter's inscription or light stamp. Everyone knows the ‘Twelve Days of Christmas’, but not as rewritten by John Julius Norwich in this delightful correspondence, which records the daily thank-you letters from one increasingly bemused young lady to her unseen admirer.

The monologue is based upon letters written by a woman to her lover who sends her each of the gifts mentioned in the song, resulting in mayhem in her village house and the breakdown of the lovers' relationship. I received it as a gift many years ago and still read it at Christmas time - take a break and have a laugh. It was published by Atlantic Books and is based upon the Christmas carol " The Twelve Days of Christmas".They also considered that it was a way of dropping hints about the consequences of poorly idealised Christmas presents. The monologue is performed by the reading out of letters written by Emily Wilbraham to her lover Edward.

The cover may have some limited signs of wear but the pages are clean, intact and the spine remains undamaged. Each day for twelve days, Edward sends her one of the gifts mentioned in "The Twelve Days of Christmas" carol and Emily responds with a letter for each day.

Grove Press An imprint of Grove Atlantic, an American independent publisher, who publish in the UK through Atlantic Books. It makes me laugh out loud every time I read it and I keep it out (not just for Christmas) to read through it occasionally. First edition thus hard back binding in publisher's original Devon cream cloth covers, scarlet title and author lettering to the spine.
