About this deal

The Columbia Classics site has been updated and it has a poll for you to vote on what should be the next Ray Harryhausen film to get the Blu-ray treatment. Pelias, of course, doesn't like the sound of that end bit, so after seizing control of the city he viciously begins eliminating Aristo's bloodline. And with the addition of a couple of great commentary tracks, as well as the customary Harryhausen documentaries, this is marvellous value that won't, ahem, fleece you. I need to either see the Criterion LD again or hear from someone who has it to ascertain just how this transfer differs, or doesn't differ, in terms of those day-for-night sequences, but there is no doubt that this Blu-ray version is considerably better than anything other than the Criterion transfer.

There is a nice little touch when Jason seeks assistance from the Hera figurehead as the ship and the crew founder in the sea after Talos has toyed with them, when the soft woodwind theme for the Goddess emanates from the rears. It's an amazingly entertaining track that details both the production and its impact on both cult audiences and filmmakers, including Peter Jackson. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item.

There are also two fantastic documentaries: Ray Harryhausen Chronicles and The Harryhausen Legacy (which is narrated by Leonard Nimoy). And if you don't want a revamped soundtrack, then you will be pleased to know that the original mono track is included too, and this sounds very good indeed.Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has set July 6 as the Blu-ray release date for the 1963 mythological action/adventure movie Jason and the Argonauts, featuring visual effects by Ray Harryhausen, including a famous fight sequence between live-action warriors and . Like the transfer, this is a near-reference restoration and easily the finest presentation Argonauts has ever seen on home video. Of course, the scenes combining stop-motion with live-action don't look very attractive in high-definition, although to be fair they will never be due to the techniques originally used in the film.

Jason and his crew must overcome incredible obstacles including a 100-foot bronze giant, the venomous Hydra huge creature with the heads of seven snakes, and a spectacular battle with an army of skeletons. Not long before that, I'd seen the film for my first time in years at the Walter Reade in NYC and never gave A/R a thought. Jason and the Argonauts" is my favorite Harryhausen film (which the bluray looks pretty good) with "First Men in the Moon" coming right behind.Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). Obviously, and a little regrettably, this otherwise fine feature becomes a little too sweet with sugary praise and adulation . Ads for some foreign markets tout prints by Technicolor, which surely would have been an improvement. Now, whether with the full endorsement and supervision of Ray Harryhausen or not (at the time of writing, I have no information regarding his involvement with the transfer, although he certainly helped oversee Kino's deluxe release of She and took an active role in the hi-def colourisation of 20 Million Miles To Earth), the sequence plays out much brighter and with a considerably more cheerful disposition.

Will a pulse-pounding pace, bloody violence and lifelike computer-generated effects create a more real, tangible world filled with heart and emotion? Flesh tones are as accurate as you can expect for a nearly 50 year old film, and the colors just as vibrant. Only available in The Wonderful Worlds of Ray Harryhausen Volume Two: 1961-1964 box set with Mysterious Island and First Men in the Moon (limited to 6,000 copies). But far from making me biased towards this new edition and, especially, its hi-def transfer, this probably made me less forgiving and more critical. A triumph of Harryhausen's technique, the sequence must have required more animation work than the rest of the movie put together, as the seven skeletons fight in so many individual camera setups.Sony previously brought 'Jason and the Argonauts' to DVD in 1998 and again as part of 'The Ray Harryhausen Collection - The Legendary Monster Series' box set back in 2004. But it is from lifelong friend and fellow fabulist, Ray Bradbury, that the most touching epithets come.
