About this deal

The Serpent in the Garden is traced to Bel-Marduk, an incarnate deity who advanced the Sumerians; demanded Human Sacrifice, and was eventually dismembered and left to die by the high priests - his limbless body earned the name Serpent.

With his third novel, the ghost story The Survivor, Herbert used supernatural horror rather than the science fiction horror of his first two books. Not frightening in the sense most would take the emotion today, but a good, slow-moving character study. Halloran is unaware of the insidious evil he must face, that he will have to combat men who thrive on the worst physical corruption, that he will find love, that he will have to face the darkness of his own soul. Unfortunately, Sepulchre, my introduction to the man, nails the "not great" part of that better than the "fun" one.Sepulchre gives us a more curious and elaborate tale of mystery with links to ancient history and powers unknown hidden behind an internationally successful corporation seeking protection from a top security firm and our lead character Halloran. But, like all of these criticisms, there remains for the horror fan, an aura of kitsch lovability as well.

As I was reading this, I had a strange impression that I 'knew' the character of Liam Halloran - off course, it is a 'typical' Irish name, so might have been used by another author, but that co-incidence kept distracting me from the book. Aged nine, his impoverished father's theft of a pig introduced the constantly hungry boy to raw meat.

Additional Arabic bodyguards patrol the area, their presence and barefaced denial of speaking or understanding the English language another mystery in itself. I suppose it's that cliche that in many cases for this genre to work, you need to care to some extent about those involved or the reality itself.

new mineral resources; he will combat men who thrive on the worst of physical corruption; he will find love of a perverse nature; he will confront the darkness of his own soul. Psychic Powers: Kline uses psychic powers to detect mineral sources, project disturbing images, and anticipate an attempt on his life. For the main part, the story is set at Neath, Kline's extremely gothic sounding country residence with characters including Cora his beautiful devoted assistant and a bunch of extremely sadistic and violent bodyguards collected from all corners of the world.

The book races by with a jam packed plot that will truly leave you not wanting to put the book down. Ruthless tough guy with a heart of gold, or at least I think that's what we're supposed to be inferring from the repeated mentions along the above lines.
