The image has a clean aesthetic, with ample delineation that draws out plenty of detail, in both close-up and wide-angle camera shots. The film sees Tarantino moving beyond just flaunting his attention-mongering cine-geekitude, as he actually seems to be scrutinizing his obsession with the cinema by cleverly placing it into an apt historical context. Universal brings Inglourious Basterds to ultra-high-def from the same 2K digital intermediate that was used for the original Blu-ray. Unfortunately I have a pretty messed non calibrated screen so I'm always running into problems with HDR movies as many styles of color grading don't look good on poorly calibrated screens, but man o man, even on my terrible screen this movie looks AMAZING.

Each sequences winds up being its own short story revolving around the war and the Nazi occupation of France in the early 1940s. Weird after playing the 4K version, neither of the Blu-Ray versions I own will play on any of my players !
