About this deal

In playback, the audio issues aren't fatally bad, and actually the flickering DV layer on the video may well prove to be the real death sentence to playback, certainly for those who haven't got the option to watch without. Black levels are much better resolved this time out - in this 4K disc and the remastered 1080p Blu-ray - giving the image a better feeling of three-dimensional depth. Compared to the “heroic bloodshed” of those films, in which their heroes find a kind of nobility in committing carnage without that violence being glorified, his 1993 American debut, Hard Target, rarely reflects on the ruin left in its protagonist’s wake.

com is an Introducer Appointed Representative of Pay4Later Limited, trading as Deko, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 728646). Since 2001, we've brought you uncompromising, candid takes on the world of film, music, television, video games, theater, and more. Limited edition has a nice hard box, steelbook is cool with some embossing on the text, a booklet about the movie and some cool art cards, the poster is only small though. The incredibly fancy (and, truth be told, a little more expensive) Steelbook format is the only choice for those needing a physical media release that doubles as a table tennis bat in a pinch. I used to think it was my oled tv or Panasonic 4K player that was causing the issue but now that it’s happening in this disc I’m not so sure.As far as the bad guys go, Lance Henriksen is perfect here as the man in charge, chewing just enough scenery to create a memorable character while Arnold Vosloo is equally good and surprisingly intense as the strong, silent type. In a world of nearly limitless home entertainment options, this blog is designed to serve as a guide to topics including broadcast, streaming, Blu-ray and other physical media, home theater gear, and anything else to help you figure out what to watch and how best to watch it. Since a few hundred dollars is exactly what Chances needs to pay his overdue union fees, they shake hands.

Finally, there are no distracting large blemishes, cuts, marks or dark spots, but I did notice a couple of white specks. Footage around the credits and any optical effects is a little rougher around the edges with a thicker grain structure and speckling. Still, the official international cut is a quality action film even with all the troubles behind the scenes, taking the classic story from The Most Dangerous Game and updating it to a contemporary setting.Despite his ridiculous permed mullet, Van Damme moves with a savage grace in this picture and Woo, ever the stylist, ensures that he's captured from just the right angle every single time. Woo may not have made his best film here, but it was easily one of his best US outings, and he inarguably worked wonders with the ingredients he had, making Van Damme into an eminently cool action icon and certainly delivering his best flick, whilst crafting a bona fide action classic in the process. While the story is pretty basic routine action movie material, it’s how well it’s made and how the elements are pulled together that makes it great.

He’s doing impressive stunts, he’s quipping, he’s leaning into the action star leading man role with ease. The steelbook is beautifully glossed and embossed, aswell as like many other recent releases you get production cards, poster and a nice little production booklet with some very nice never before seen stills. Every action star has a peak film; that mega-blockbuster that defines their time on the silver screen.JCVD Still pumps out some fun movies, but nothing has come close to the excellence that is Hard Target. Watch the Trailer for the Jordan Peele-produced ‘Monkey Man’ directed by and starring Dev Patel Don’t encourage him! From the late 80s into the mid-90s, it was difficult to go a full year without another Jean-Claude Gosh Darn movie. The UHD disc comes with an informative commentary by action film historians Brandon Bently and Mike Leeder that contextualize the film within Woo and Jean-Claude Van Damme’s careers, while the accompanying Blu-ray contains short interviews with the cast and crew, including Woo, actors Lance Henriksen and Yancy Butler, and stunt coordinator Billy Burton.

Shadows and colors are richly rewarded while maintaining the film’s lean towards yellow golden summer tones. The outdoor footage in particular has significantly better ranges of nuances that are part of an overall superior dynamic range, so if you perform a direct comparison with any area with outdoor footage from the old Blu-ray release, you will see a pretty impressive uptick in quality. Van Damme is the target of an evil mercenary (Lance Henriksen) who recruits homeless combat veterans for the “amusement” of his clients — bored tycoons who will pay a half a million dollars to stalk and kill the most challenging prey of them all: Man.Density levels are good, Fluidity is much better as well, so if you view on a larger screen this will be a substantial improvement that you will have a very easy time appreciating. Hard Target attacks 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in a two-disc 4K UHD + Blu-ray release from Kino Lorber Studio Classics. The supplemental features on the release include new program with John Woo; new programs with actors Larce Henriksen and Yancy Butler; new program with stunt coordinator Billy Burton; new audio commentary recorded by critics Brandon Bentley and Mike Leeder; and remastered original trailer.
