About this deal

In addition to her prostitution, Rose engaged in casual sex with both male and female lodgers within their household, and individuals Fred encountered via his work; she also bragged to several people that no man or woman could completely satisfy her. On one occasion in August 1974, [90] Rose chased after Fred with a carving knife in her hand; Fred was able to slam shut the door of the room into which he had run as Rose lunged at him with the knife, resulting in the knife embedding itself in the door, and three of Rose's fingers sliding down the blade, almost severing them from her hand. I'm still none the wiser, but feel now that people should read this book and others like it for lessons learned.

I truly believe that when we obviously recoil from the crimes that their parents committed we forget that the children in the house at the time were innocent and yet they bear the scars not only of their upbringing but also the scars of people’s reactions when they find out who they are. Together they raped, murdered, dismembered and buried at least ten (but likely many more) innocent women who fell into their clutches. Shortly thereafter, Rose began to fondle her, as Fred questioned whether she had had sex with her boyfriend that evening. Now, for the first tme, the full story of Frederick West's extraordinary life and death can be told, the secrets of his appalling crimes revealed. His assistance with the book mean that while Mae’s own words shine through the structure and overall feel is that this is a well-written and thought out book. All those poor teenage girls and women sexually abused and murdered at the hands of those two perverted animals ! Chapter 2 and 3 were highlights for me, learing about the childhood of both Fred and Rose, the detail and construction was rather good, and the actual content was quite fascinating. I wanted to like this book more, as it came highly recommended, but somehow it just seems a bit 'flat' to me.

It must have been difficult writing, much like a pathologist who autopsies a body, and does not become ensured to the horror, despite having to be exposed to it. This new publication of Geoffrey Wansell's iconic, bestselling true crime masterpiece comes thirty years after West was arrested, in 1992.Former journalist Howard Sounes covered the murder trial of Rosemary West and went on to pen this in-depth book recounting not only the murders, but the many rapes and tortures inflicted on Fred and Rosemary’s victims.

Where Colin Wilson excels in this book is by making comparisons to other serial murders as well as highlighting the differences and here his extensive knowledge comes to the fore. A couple of weeks ago, prisoner-for-life Rose West was assaulted by another female inmate, who later stated that as a mother herself she could not tolerate Rose's crimes, nor the attention and approbation she believes Rose receives. It's clear that a lot of time and effort went into writing this book, which shows in the depth of information presented. The following morning, having noted Owens' screaming when one of his children had knocked on the door of the room in which she was restrained, Fred threatened that he and his wife would keep her locked up in the cellar and allow his "black friends" to abuse her, and that when they had finished, he would bury her body beneath "the paving stones of Gloucester". This couple were definantly out of touch with reality and living in some fantasy world full of sadomasochism. As the details unfolded I felt a personal pull; I had lived near and in Gloucester, I’d certainly walked along Cromwell Street and Heather West was the same age as me, or would have been if she hadn’t been killed and buried under a patio. Bill Letts made one final effort to prevent his daughter from seeing Fred, and Rose was examined by a police surgeon in February 1970, who confirmed she was pregnant. Frederick Walter Stephen West was born on 29 September 1941, [1] at Bickerton Cottage, Much Marcle, Herefordshire, [2] the first surviving child of Walter Stephen West (1914–1992) and Daisy Hannah Hill (1922–1968).

Frederick Walter Stephen West (29 September 1941 – 1 January 1995) was an English serial killer, who committed at least twelve murders between 1967 and 1987 in Gloucestershire, the majority with his second wife, Rose West. When Owens began to protest, Fred stopped the car, referred to Owens as a "bitch", [107] and punched her into unconsciousness before he and Rose bound and gagged her with a scarf and duct tape.
