This mower does not collect cut grass in a box so if dry you will be left with scattered clippings, or if wet they will stick up under the housing and need to be cleaned off.

The manual states to have the machine serviced yearly but there’s no authorised service centre in my area! My lawn is more like a rough section of field and the ground is uneven and the grass is pretty rough. You know what it’s like, you get your lawnmower out to do the first cut of the spring and the blades need adjusting but you can’t find the spanner!I am disabled with many ailments some of which this mower was going to be better to handle than the other due to my Fibromyalgia and Arthritis. I have always purchased Flymo products and in some nearly 20 years have never had an issue with any of them.

I had a Flymo L470 petrol mower which has died and wanted to replace it, this is obviously not comparable to the L470 in terms of robustness and power but I've been using it for the same tasks and it has performed really well. Am replacing it with the same model which is bound to last longer as I've bought a ride-on for the paddock. Also once the blade is removed you need to take care to replace it the right way as it is unclear whether they mean the "up" side is the one you are looking at (with the machine upside down for adjustment) or is the skyward side! In fact I would say not having the weight of all the parts of a collecting mower and the weight of the clippings improves the hovering ability. I have a large back garden this mower is very powerful and having a metal blade it cuts very well, mowers with plastic blades are a nightmare as they keep breaking every couple of yards,the only problem is the flymo 400 only ever lasts 2 years,its the same fault on every one ive had the bearing on the blade shaft goes and because the shaft is not running true it vibrates uncontrollable and makes the mower usless the bearing is the only item you cant get has a spare you cant replace it its a sealed item, but saying that the mower gets the job done very well the cuttings are so fine they just rot back into the grass, ive bought 4 mowers over 8 years all gone the same way [bearings] that works out about 75 pence a week over 2 years so i suppose its not too bad for a very powerful mower, i just wish flymo could sort the 2 year lifespan of the rotor bearings out. The impeller draws air from above the cutting housing which creates pressure on the underside, lifting the mower from the lawn.

Small caveat come on Flymo it’s 2021 you need to be upping your game in the design and engineering stakes. The strong, metal blade is easy to adjust in height with four spacers over about 3cm total height range, or to replace when needed - at least every two years. I had to give one star but not for this mower as the other mower was perfect and brand NEW and is a good piece of lawn equipment it deserved 6 stars so this one is isn't even for this mower.
