The theme of love and loss is empathetic but if feels like a series of cliche sentiments or thoughts of work chopped up to look like free verse and not showing any of the poetic structured forms found in other works of poetry. I don't regret reading because there were some poems (probably between 25-50%) that were really nice and made clear sense. At one point in the novel Hughes tells Plath that life has a mission for everyone and that his mission is freedom.

And now I / Foam to wheat, a glitter of seas”, Plath wrote in her own Ariel, matching Hughes’s wildernesses of freedom with her own “suicidal” flight into “the red / Eye, the cauldron of morning”.
