That jarred a bit for me in a way that it didn't with real-life dead characters in this and earlier books.

For example, I get that this book was about the sexual revolution, however, did every character have to have an affair? Rebecca’s last class of the day was on the construction of the passive voice in Russian grammar, and it was a shambles, easily the worst lesson she had given since she qualified as a teacher.

He never complained, but they made love only about once a week, which she believed to be infrequent for newlyweds. The first week this book was first put on the shelves, we drove to Independence, MO to visit my son ,and his new wife, who live there now. Beginning in 1961, almost two decades after the end of World War II, the novel depicts a post-war Britannia that is no longer the master of the high seas.

Every incident was drawn from what could have been a pleasant story into a long, over-detailed story.
