It is very unusual for me to have a Danielle steel book less than five stars but this one was a Shakey four stars. Charles manages to get out of the car and swim to safety and even manages to climb up the cliff and back onto the road, where he walks, in the dark, until he finds a remote cabin. I think I’d enjoy reading this for the settings but not so much for the character developement or romance. I wonder if the editors just take this super successful authors manuscript and send it to print without reading it first.

The main character is a whiner who has worked hard his whole life (minus 2 years he didn't work and his wife was pissy about it. Danielle I feel like stepped out of her comfort zone on this book, but it 100% was one of the best works I’ve read.

even though we were told over and over how wonderful he is and loyal and blah blah (book is all tell and zero show) oh and he admits to cheating on his wife throughout the marriage. Steel needs to spend more energy writing one well-written solid story instead of releasing 8 or 9 in one year that aren't worth a toot. I found the overall message in the book to be powerful, but the story was lacking depth in my opinion. Charles hates his job, is unhappy in his cold marriage, and wants nothing more than to move on in his life. One night, following yet another argument with his employer, he leaves the city and drives up the coast toward his chateau and a weekend spent entertaining his wife’s friends.

Their connection is instant, and as she nurses him back to health, Charles begins to discover the passion he’s been missing for so many years. Still, at his core, he is an honorable man, and he must decide whether or not he can vanish forever, leaving everything behind—and everyone, including his family—or if he will rise from the dead and follow his heart. Also, the romantic relationship between Charles and Aud was very rushed and not all that believable to me. Fast paced, engrossing, suspenseful, and uplifting, it may even inspire you to choose happiness and make some much-needed changes in your own life.
